im looking for a flatbed now!! there are 4.1 flatbed loads over a step and i can only haul 46,500 with my combo 48ft stepdeck, with a 48ft combo flatbed i can scale 50,000lbs i do make more money on a few stepdeck loads but not every i have both now and my flatbed truck is making more money and has way less dead head miles than i do

    I couldn't agree more!!!
running team is the ONLY time that I can justify pulling a van. The rates for team runs are just as good as platform rates most the time, and lots more of them. Just have to get into the niche and find some brokers that will keep ya running steady.

To throw in another curveball. If you decide to run a team open-deck operation and dabble in o/d freight, you also need to closely examine allowable hours of operation. I hate winter not only for the snow, cold, ect, but mainly because o/d freight can only move during daylight hours (in most cases). Another huge negative for a team operation.

My wife and I run a team stepdeck with Landstar and do pretty good. While there isn't always "TEAM" loads out there we can pick up a load that goes 1000 miles and deliver the next day instead of taking 2 days to do it solo. We also have the advantage of running AA&E freight as well as regular team freight. We don't do any o/d loads as wife isn't comfortable with doing that and we still make out pretty good.

is it 48 flat? the dealer has a combo step 53 with can locks, scales about 12k, with 2 boxes.

Thanks for the input. I'm gonna think hard for a couple of days, but I'm leaning toward 48 flat for now. Revolution 52 or 60, Mac or similar, although the dealer has a new Infinit
y 53 step with can locks, 10 upper, 43 lower. all he needs is a $1700 down payment to put things in motion. tempting:)
