I looked into Prime but 4-6 months with a trainer. Wow thats a long time to have 2 guys in a truck for that long.

I don't think it's nearly that long. Do some more research.

Go to the Prime forum. They have changed their training requirements. It's mileage based now.

Honestly, that depends on your definition of "good income". I would say that while it is possible, its not likely. If you search in the aviary thread I have posted my pay for the entire time that I was with Stevens. You decide if thats your definition of good. And yes before someone else claims thats the reason that my pay was low, I took out some cash advances and I never turned down a load.

I take a cash advance every week because it saves me from paying a fee at an ATM...

I have always had positive settlements even with the advances.

First of all, 'mature' driver candidates tend to do better in this business. I think (my opinion) it's because they are willing to work harder, understand all the world is not a gimme. They have less options in life. Let's face it, when you go over that 50 mark, your options are far less than that for a 30 year old. So over 50 candidates are willing to put up with more crap, work harder and realize they have to 'make it' because there just aren't a lot of other options out there.
But in the end, the older driver will outperform the younger driver almost every time and as a result are more valuable to an empoyer.
Companies tend to hire older drivers. I'm speaking of your second or third truck driving job.
Older drivers are more careful and will stick it out.
They are also more careful and follow the rules more adroitly.
So a little 'snow on the roof' is not a bad thing in this business. Personally, I think it's a plus.
    Unless you're running a flatbed...brutal...
