Thanks for your help. I hope it all can work out for me and maybe one day I will get the chance to shake your hand and introduce myself. I guess I am a little paranoid about going through the process and having this one item mess it up. Anyway good luck and be safe

For what it is worth... I have had 5 hernias repaired. That surgery last Feb was for 3 or them.

You will get the standard hernia test. "Turn your head and cough", while the doctor compresses your groin. If he/she detects an unrepaired hernia, you will be sidelined for further review and it will have to be taken care of before proceeding. This is all part of the standard DOT physical.

There are several reasons for them to be picky in there physicals. First, they are self insured and sometimes the risks outweigh the new hire, why risk it. Second, driving a 80k lbs truck is dangerous as it is, driving with a potential issue can make it even more dangerous and potentially more expensive. So they are picky and if you are truthful and it is not a risk they will pass you. I had a Stroke a couple years ago, I am fine, my docs say I am fine and Stevens doc passed me along. Just had to keep my BP in control and check in every 90 days.

    Emulsified Thanks this.

what should the bp be under? Since I have two screws and a pin in my right foot and can still drive what should I bring to the med center? Just a letter saying I can drive a rig?

140/90 is the max it can be. The pins and screws thing you will note that problem on the medical history form, it should not be a huge problem. Just put all of this stuff on the medical histories as they apply to you and the doctor will maybe even ask a couple of questions about them.. its not that in depth. just a general check up.

Stevens use to be 139/89. I don't think that changed. One point below DOT requirements.

As far as your foot goes, I know this isnt quite the same but in '86 I crushed my right foot and had 6 pins in it for awhile. This was never an issue with Stevens.
