Yeah, it's a red hat, but my roommate said it was here when he came in yesterday; so, either he forgot it...or...

Wow, its been a few weeks since I last peeked in on here. Good luck with the retirement and fishing, Max! Please remember, "the big one" pic cannot be photoshopped or cropped. We will know!!!! Good luck to the new guys in Stevens training, its not just a job, ITS AN ADVENTURE! -hmm... perhaps a little too military there- But seriously, as long as you are patient, determined and accept that no matter what you know, you know nothing, youll do well. Be responsible for your training, I say that to everyone because a lot of folks end up dissatisfied because they expect to be spoon fed, and this industry is anything but. Get used to "YOURE DOING IT WRONG STEVENS" because youll hear it... even from fellow Stevens drivers (glances at an aardvark)
Preplans are nice, but after years of reading advice on this forum, I know better than to count on them until the load assignment has been issued and accepted. Lately, it seems all the planners want to have a nice long chat about the load they want to give me before sending it along, but I dont mind. I like to chat. I do feel a little neglected by the repower powers that be (ha). I send in word offering a helping hand, and nary a word comes back from Stevens. Yes, I am on a popular route, yes I am early, yes I leave miles enough to make it an attractive sell, but I am always aware of whats left on my load, and inevitably take care of it before a repower is available.
Anyhoo, yall have a wonderful Monday, and Ill see ya again sometime!

The best elective repowers (those that don't need to be done for you, i.e. too much time) are when there are good miles left.
Think about it... if I call you and ask you to give up 600 miles for a 50 or 100 mile load...what are you going to say? Just because I need to get that short load delivered on time, isn't your problem!
But if I ask you to take a 500 mile load and give up 700, you're much more likely to do it, especially if it takes you in a direction you want to go. I get calls every weekend like one last night. A full team was in Barstow looking to repower "anything going east" and wanting to swap a three drop LA load in exchange.
The funny thing is, had they called me a little earlier, like Albuquerque, I had a load in Gallup going to Ohio I needed to swap out. They would have been perfect. But greed got the better of them.

I basically only send the request in to remind yall we are available if you need us and make it as attractive as possible without jeopardizing the load. If ya can use us, great! But if not, thats ok too. We are always willing to help when and where we can. And since I firmly believe on time is late, we are almost always ahead of our load.

Talked with a Stevens recruiter over the phone today. She gave me a spot in the June 8th orientation in Dallas.
