    Nostalgia,

First hourly paid job, was $1 per hour, 40 hour weeks, during the summer. Gasoline was 39 cents a gallon and $3 filled the tank on my beetle.. Every pickup had 2 or 3 rifles in the back window.

Dinner time with the family was at 5pm, miss it, no dinner for the night. We played in the streets, and road our bicycles until dark... dark was time to be home.. no helmets, no pads, many road rashes, I survived.

Grew up in a college town, summers the population was less than 20,000, fall and winter, population was 30,000. Home football game, 60,000 people...

Little league baseball, we all played, but the season ended too soon, then sandlot ball began, much more fun, better games.

Went to Woolworth, to stock up on candy and snacks before the afternoon movies. Snuck it into the theater. Bought baseball cards for the gum. Grandpa sat on the bench out front drinking his coffee from the lunch counter, along with all the other grandpas.

Hunting and fishing were a way of life, not sport. We had 3 TV stations.

Cigarettes were less than $1 a pack, Copenhagen was 50 cents.

The Vietnam war was the dividing issue of the era.

I-80 was not finished in wyoming, all the locals drove US30 with the right tires on the shoulder...

Gas was 4 for a dollar and av gas, which I pumped a LOT as a line boy at Montgomery Field in San Diego, was 75¢ a gallon and I wondered how anyone could afford it. I also worked for the local ambulance company for minimum wage...$1.35 an hour. I, too, remember when Ike was President. I was a kid overseas.

You know you're getting old when doing this is what we do. And we compare our own "old" to the other "old" and hope we win.

To quote a movie, and still my favorite movie quote: "It's not the years, it's the mileage." - Indiana Jones

One of the most memorable and oft thought of lines spouted by a friend's dad..."When you get older you don't regret the things you did in life, you regret those you didn't do."
And with that, I'm off to begin an 11 day stint at the office. Gotta make up for those days I missed while on vacation!

By the end, you'll be clamoring to get back to the solitude of a truck on the road.
