so... re: facebook vs aviary... most of us use those dang smartphones and have the facebook app right there on the home screen which makes it pretty easy to update. I personally have trouble posting on here on my phone because its a smartphone and thinks it knows better than me, which leads to more time backspacing and less actual content. and that's what we're after, after all.... content. entertainment value. information.
blah de blah.... we are lazy and not keeping up, that's the long and short of it.
recruitment information... honestly, with the new training module up and running, I'm not 100% on how it works now, but surely there are a lot of things still similar, so I will advise based on my experience.... you will be in school and on the yard (the hill) working with the trucks and in class for about three weeks. they get you behind the wheel pretty quickly, but the meat and potatos of the school is to teach you how to get your CDL. you will have a hotel if you are an out of towner (not the best hotel, but its a bed and youll discover how much you like bed once you don't get to spend any time in it), you will have a food allowance as well. stevens puts you up and feeds you but you will have to pay it back, usually starting 2-3 weeks after you go grad fleet (this used to start during dumb and dumber) so look for your school loan and hotel/food loans to start coming out 45-60 days after signing the loan paperwork (which is during the first 2 days of class)
what to bring... jeans, shirts, socks, underwear, personal hygiene items, work boots, extra money. theres a lot around the hotels and the yard, and all of it costs money.
first week is pretty easy, lots of class time, in by 730 out by 5ish. second and third week will see you in at about the same times, but will have late days. you are, in addition to getting your CDL, learning the endurance and stamina required for the job. there will be shuttle buses to get you to and from. DO NOT BE LATE. just don't do it. what I do not know is if the pay has changed. I believe the school is 3 weeks unpaid, with pay beginning when you get on a trainers truck.
after you get your CDL, youll be put in with a trainer. if you are male, it may mean taking the bus to a location. if you are female, your trainer will pick you up at the yard. for what to expect with a trainer, your question only covered what to expect for the school. further info to be provided upon request.
I really wanna play the old fart game, but only just barely qualify, as I was just being potty trained when Nixon swore he was innocent. I was more concerned with my new wonder woman red patent leather boots than the gas wars, and didn't concern myself with cigarettes until the wall came tumbling down. minimum wage at my first job was 5.00 hr.
I miss you guys. Currently in Wyoming on 90 and man, its a pretty drive. Tlea, why must Wyoming always have snow? is it a rule?
Not real happy with this Flying J, though... their shower is in the mens room. I declined. they were going to have to clean it first, and block it off, AND have someone stand guard. just aint right.
lets see... had a bird hit our windshield and had to get it replaced. spent some time with himself's family and have just about decided I might be almost ready to consider thinking about where I want to live. got a new DM the week after I came back from injured reserve, and hes treating us real good. id complain about lack of miles, but I just cant lol. love the new detention pay model, ty whoever decided itd be nice to share with the drivers who have to do all that dang sitting. had drama at home, so got a new home. still amazed on a daily basis just how stupid four wheelers are. seriously considering turning my CB into a PA. since the airhorn doesn't seem to work, maybe giving them a little shoutout will. himself wants to put an LED on the grill that can post messages.
my time is up now, but you guys... miss you guys! its not just a forum about the crazy of work... its also a forum about the crazy of life. let us know how youre doing too! since yall so old and set in your ways ya cant come to facebook!Shoestring, DenaliDad and Corporal_Clegg Thank this. -
Lol at the PA and LED sign.
I have often times thought of getting both.
The sign would have to have preformed messages though, 1 touch to get them to flash.
Not old and set in my ways just never been invited to the facebook page.flue Thanks this. -
So yeah, it's a rule, no matter what the season or mode of travel.flue Thanks this. -
Yes flue, it is a rule... we have two season, construction and snow....
Snow in September was a normal occurrence in the 60's and early 70's. I have seen it snow in Laramie WY, 7,200 ft on July 2nd, July 3 and July 4.
This is an open forum, anyone can come leave a comment, read the comments, lurk, smirk, join in, and leave... that is not possible with FB.
and our state windsock,
flue and Corporal_Clegg Thank this. -
shoestring, send me a PM and I will dial you in.
DenaliDad, last winter being my first truck driving winter, I wont even lie... 80 and 90 and 94 give me serious heebie jeebies. Im the one that goes slow while the CB gospel sings about how "if yer skeerd of it, ya shouldn't aint be in it!"
Tlea, Wyoming, its growing on me. Sheridan had a very persuasive argument in favor of. Simply stunning.
As for Facebook, we have a lot of lurkers, many smirkers and fewer joiners than you might think. But in my opinion, its just a different way to communicate. Im more comfortable with the anonymity of a forum personally. Its not as immediate as facebook, and its more linear, more concise.
However!!!! Never fear... I intend to see about meshing the two a bit. Too many are missing out. =)Corporal_Clegg and Shoestring Thank this. -
Well hell it has certainly been a while since I have been in here, more like had the time to be here LMAO has been an incredible couple of weeks and thought I would peek in to see whats going on. Hope all are having a successful summer gonna read up a bit and see what kind of mischief I can get into
