Smithfield does have a payment program for its missed pickup deadlines but mega fleets do not pass that onto the drivers, most small companies do give it to the driver. As most small companies get their loads through a broker, it is the broker that pays the driver from the money he gets from Smithfield. Sorry guys, Stevens probably wraps that money into its revenue so the books look good.

Delivered my load in ME this morning, already had a pp for a paper load going to NJ. Cool, so I get mt and the load assignment comes in, no routing as yet though. So I head off to the fuel stop which is less than 10 from there. Lo and behold it's a drop and hook, so I take off. Got to the Pilot at exit 1 on I84 in MA and shut down. Now I start looking at the rest of my route. This thing has me going right through NYC! Gotta find me an alternate route.

If by right through NYC you mean 95 over the GWB, that is the shorter route to Jersey. You can take the Tappen Zee north of the city and come down 287 bit that is going to add a good 30-50 miles to your trip depending on where you are going in Jersey. Also you will still sit in the traffic in CT.Any other route is going to take you way out of route. I always try to plan my trips to be able to pass through or into NYC in the overnight period and there is a lot less traffic.

All that said, it is usually faster going south through the Cross Bronx as there is no toll get to jam things up.

    Have fun.

I think everyone on this thread will get a kick out of this: we've all seen those small ads that trucking companies put on the back of their trailers - "company drivers wanted", "get home more", etc. Well, I just saw a Watkins Shephard trailer with this little ditty on the back: "get paid to travel". How's that for truth in advertising?
