If Stevens approves the Colorado school and you're happy, go for it. The school is there to get you licensed. Stevens will train you how to drive. Don't worry about mountain driving. Stevens has you park if the weather is bad. They do not go over passes or roads that require chains. They don't even give you chains in the winter except in limited circumstances. If the route is questionable, it won't be given to a new driver. They are VERY safety conscience. It's something you won't appreciate until you're sitting in a truck stop during nasty weather, having been shut down by Safety, while another driver is complaining how his company expects him to 'make it somehow'.
The advantage of the Colorado school for you (I am assuming you are a Colorado resident) is you will be licensed into Colorado to begin with. If you go to school in Dallas, you will be licensed into Texas (it's the law) and you will need to transfer your license back into Colorado when you complete school in Dallas. Not a big deal, but a minor pain in the butt and there usually is some kind of fee from your home state.
    Hope that answers your questions.

Broke a pulley and lost serpentine belt. Went on reset and have appointment for 8am at local KW 41 miles away.
Should make Mon evening delivery on time.
Otherwise been busy, busy, busy. About 2,100 miles this week. Will have another 400 next week doing regular scheduled loads.
Do 400-500 miles everyday, Mon - Fri. Extra $75 run available Fri nights takes about three hours Aurora IL to Morris IL. Also a few $50 runs avail through week but not convenient for me.
Finally ahead on money and bills caught up. Looking for good truck parking in hometown but no luck. ThermoKing 60 miles from home only approved spot still.
Gratz on the 660 Aracos. Too small inside for my taste, but they do turn tight! Let me know how your mpg turns out. Getting 7.6 on my 72000. 8.0 - 8.2 on dashboard and QC.
Welcome new students and drivers! You won't get rich at Stevens but you will get trained and good experience that's highly in demand. Stevens is a great training company for first few years in trucking. Quite a few stay for ten + years. Both my OTR trainers had over 10 years. I'm expecting to stick around a while. 9 months with them and I'm regional in my home area never having driven a truck before, almost 2,500 miles a week and weekends off. I can't complain much except getting through on phones can be an exercise in patience. QC is usually faster though.

Fun but hot day today here in the Big D. One of our number passed out from the heat. It was my first time in a Kenworth. Really liked it better than the Volvo I had be working with at Roadmaster.

Hey aracos. I will keep an eye out for you and say hi if I get the chance. Day two of orientation tomorrow. Going to be a long day.

I am very happy with Stevens. The staff/drivers I have had contact with been very nice. Me and roomate are getting along just fine but I get along with pretty much anybody.

Still hearing the horror stories about some trainers and how for one reason or another the training period can get extended. Also understand that many trainees make trouble for themselves. One look around me makes me suspect the trainees are more at fault that the trainers for training to drag on past the 9/10 weeks.

    Anyway....me happy camper.

Alamorich, training can take longer if for some reason you can't get a load through enough mountain passes to make requirement to do so, or if you can't get the hang of backing, etc. Can also end up dispatched way out in NE or NY the week you're due back in Dallas and spend one or two weeks getting a load back to yard. It happens. I was six weeks on first trainer's truck because we were way out in nowhere northwest during bad snowstorms and got short hauls for a week, then took a week to get back to Dallas. Second trainer I was back in Dallas in four weeks and two days. My 90 days solo 101 days. Training doesn't go like clockwork once you go OTR.
It doesn't pay much either, so plan on scrimping! I lived on Monday and Thursday advances right up through third month solo, and sometimes after that.
Lovin' that shuttle ride? lmao Probably the worst thing about Stevens training is the shuttles. All students at Americas Best now? They were using Crosslands for students which is a slightly better place. See if they still are and if you can go there instead. Shuttle is still a daily exercise in patience and probably a test of your resolve and ability to get on one, lol.

Stevens has a contract with a school in the denver area. Check with them since you live there, and avoid having to transfer the license. Advantage, none, the school is there to get you able to pass the DOT test. You will not know how to drive a truck, but have the basics.

Well, pulled into KW dealer twenty minutes ago, and the already have it in bay 1 with hood up and pulling broken pulley. Mechanic said I have a good hour, so I'm at truckstop across street having sausage gravy and biscuits. Adrian would probably complain, saying they should be illegal. lol. Will make delivery on time it looks, no probs. Yeah, that wondering what truck you'll end up with goes right up until they hand you keys, tell you the number and go look for it, and you are standing right in front of it finally. ENJOY!
