Smokr, what has happened with you has been an eye opener. I am formulating a back-up plan ust in case I get thrown a curve ball. At this time I do not forsee anything like what you had happen to you but you never know.

Different people have different ideas about how to go about teaching. That goes for just about anything. After you have been working with the transmission for a while you might start to think that Floating is easier then shifting while using the clutch. And it is in some scenarios. But when you are first starting out I think it is better to teach the basics first and build from there.
I also try to emphasize working with the equipment and not abusing the equipment. I believe it will make you a much better driver in the long run.
In the beginning your instructor should let you shift the way you are most comfortable. I think you have the right ideas about shifting.
I don't see the point in pressuring you to float right off the bat if you don't want to. Especially if you are not being hard on the transmission.
It just takes practice. . . Just hang in there. -

Mabe they will even re-imberse you for your school.
I have been reading posts stating that companies prefer to hire trainees and that experienced drivers are having trouble finding work. I'm not sure how true that is. I tend to believe that good people are always in demand. -
Just a driver that listens, ask questions, has worked for other big companies that are just as dysfunctional as Stevens, and my sister is an insurance underwriter for a major insurance company, and it is amazing how many decisions now days are made based on the insurance demands.
then there is all my life experience.
Stevens should be more upfront with there requirements but there are just too many bosses.

Does Stevens put the "fun" in dysfunctional?

Hey Smokr, What have you found out today? I hope you had good news. I live 65 miles away from where you are and if you need a ride or a place to hang your hat till you get it together let me know, my door is open for you.

Screenman, that is very nice of you. Hopefully smokr got the issues resolved and is out on a truck doing what he wants to do.

Well, mom's doctor's office drug their feet getting the forms done, and when I called for the fourth time today at 3pm my time, 4pm back home, the doctor had been called to the hospital and she said he wouldn't be back until tomorrow. So I informed Mrs. S of that and she said to call them first thing in the morning and keep on them to get it faxed down here tomorrow. She was rather nice about it, surprising me.
I swear, it's like the man above doesn't want me working at Stevens! lol
Anyway, I expect to have the letter tomorrow and maybe even be assigned tomorrow. Hoping so anyway! It's nerve-wracking not knowing for sure and all! I like to have a plan and a backup plan, so it bugs me when my plans are on hold due to someone else.
Thanks for the nice words and offers guys. You're more proof that truckers are a family beyond merely the company they drive for. -
Smokr good luck
