Free speech is free speech. It is ONLY insider information if you WORK for the company involved. Discussing what is told by dispatch, and by the shipper and receiver is perfectly legal. Now if that information affects an investors decision, it is information they needed. I can disclose anything told to me while I am talking to people. Loose lips sink ships every day. IN no way I am responsible for what another person does with the information I give them. They are responsible to verify what they are told is true, and are responsible for what they do with that information.
I do not like the fact that dispatch is telling drivers that we are moving the plant from NYC, when in fact that is not true. That may be in the future, but is not true at this time. 53 FT trailers should NOT be on that street, let alone be staging and loading out of that area. It is dispatches way of getting the drivers in there to pick up the product.
It is a total FUBAR, on both ends, and that should be public knowledge.
And I will continue to say so, until it is fixed, or stopped.

As for GPS? Yes, I use the TND 700 and 500. Both.
I do beta testing for them. I like the 700 better due to the screen size. both work identically.
Are there bugs? sure. Thats why they use me and a bunch of other truckers.
The system design is largely controlled by a trucker, now turned designer, so it addresses the needs better than some of the others out there. The beta testing is done by active truckers like myself, so we tend to spot the bugs pretty fast. They've been good in upgrading, incorporating enhancements, but I think theres a ways to go before I'd call it 'done'.
but from what I've seen, compared to the others out there, I think it passes the competition by in most cases.
But remember...it's my opinion. -
Well hope the locking caps deter people from siphoning your fuel! As for the GPS, I am really interested in picking one up once I make it to grad fleet.
BTW! Talked to Denise in recruiting today wondering why I haven't recieved my official pre-hire letter. She said I sent that some time ago! Se says "Oh! I mailed that to your school! Not your home. Went to the placement director at school and sure enough! Sitting right in her mailbox! So its now officially official! Nov 7th!!! -
your right Tlea, just checked my book... didn't think of it at the time.. hope the poor guy got some credit at least.
Well, dropped my load... and now I wait... California freight is slow... least for the poor grad fleet... well here's hoping.. going to get the trailer washout done today.. and probably wash the tractor and trailer, just for the pretty factor. since I have to wait anyway. -
I use the garmin 465T. I like it, they continue to update it, and I purchased the life time updates for the maps. Yes it has had some bugs, usually addressed quickly. It has never routed me down a road I should not be on. Now I have routed myself on to roads that were questionable.
I like the way I can plan an entire trip, with fuel stops, rest stops, and it tells me total distance, distance between points, and estimated time. Also has a traffic service, that is picked up from the FM bands. Reasonably accurate on the traffic. I am happy with the garmin 465T, and will not be changing anytime soon.
Now if they could just put the weather maps into it I would be totally happy. -
Not just California slow, Even the meat patch is slow. Getting to spend 48 hours in Ottawa IL. But as usual, stevens works within their policy and I have been dispatched before the lay over pay kicks in...sneaky, dispatch me today the 30th for a load that DLDs at 2300 on the 1st. I have been empty since 1700 yesterday.
-
I didn't say you cannot say it. I'm saying be careful. As a professional in my former profession, I had done websites for three portable toilet companies. Each of them would ask me what the other was doing and I could have disclosed very internal trade secrets such as dates of new product releases, designs and marketing plans. Yes portable toilet companies do have those and they are very competitive.
ditto with Stevens customers. It's really about trust here, not freedom. The office was wrong to divulge that information in the first place. Ditto the manager at the plant. While you were in your right to post that information here, I respectfully submit that it's not the right thing to do. -
There's a huge update to the RandMcnally GPS models that was released yesterday. It's about 2gb in size including new maps.
Get yours today! -
Geez with all these posts about slow freight, stolen fuel, Astoria, sitting in the meat patch, etc...I'll be doing double duty on the thanks and prayers tonight.
Did a 34-hour reset in Albuquerque on Monday. Was dispatched to IBP in Amarillo for a California bound load. About 20 minutes after acknowledging that load I get a call asking for help with a repower. I jokingly tell the DM on the other end of the phone that I don't have enough hours available and that I can't help him(remember I just did a reset). He laughed as he got the joke and gave me the rundown. Headed to Melrose Park IL (west Chicago) due on Thursday at 1300. 1300 miles with 2 and a half days to get there. Perfect! Keeps me outta the meat patch and puts me in fairly fertile ground as far a freight is concerned. So I tell him set it up. The other driver shows up right on time and off I go.
Get to final at 1200 today and check in. They put me right in a door and I'm unloaded with bills in hand at 1330. Send my E-call and park in their lot waiting for a load assignment. 20 minutes later I get it: Kraft in Morris IL (technically its Pro Logis) heading to Las Vegas. Its got WAY too much time on it (scheduled delivery is Tuesday the 5th). This facility in Morris is drop-and-hook so that's a nice bonus. If I rub this load all the way to Las Vegas (which is highly likely to happen as I'll be liking for a repower somewhere around Salt Lake City on Sunday and weekend d dispatch isn't exactly known for wanting to do a repower for the sake of the driver lol) it will give me 3000 miles for the week.
All in all its panning out to be a productive week so far. I'm relishing the experience because I know I could (and will) have one of those horrendous weeks in the near future. Take the good with the bad and try to have done fun while doing it. -
I do hope the new warehouse around Richmond gets there problems worked out, and can start honoring appointment times, and get trucks unloaded in a reasonable amount of time.
Now if this information causes this company any troubles, so be it. They need to get their act together.
Your example of the web sites and being asked by a competitor for information is NOT the same as what I have done here. I agree that disclosing information you knew to build their web page would be a breach of trust.
