Yeah, did 25 hours on a bus once from Cali to Dallas when I had food poisoning. I think my bus ride from home to Dallas to start school was 19 hours. Both rides were awful! But yeah, I think it was certainly worth it.
Oh, and welcome aboard! Post about your experiences either here or in your own thread and come link to it here often.
Yeah, no sleeping in the seat! Bad habit! You're dead on right there. That's a killer being trained.
Storing your truck is a pain for many of us. The only places I can find around me are closed the very hours I need access to my truck, or the very hours I'd be likely arriving to store it for two days at most. This weekend I have to talk to Kip about the situation. I know a great little place with two lot cameras and I can park so the truck is visible on both of them. Local police and state boys are there everyday every shift. A 24 hour gas station that hardly does any business. Quiet and never had any problems, and other truckers (3) have been parking trucks there for days for years. One even lives in the little motel next door. All owned by a Christian family and kept clean and quiet. Best I can do, and I can stay at the motel for next to nothing and get picked up and visited by family easily.
In my hometown there are no hopes, especially when you consider times I need to arrive and leave.
And Stevens will never approve even a Loves or Petro etc if you are going to leave the truck for more than a few hours, let alone two or more days.
So I'll let you know what works out in future. Right now I pretty much stay on the truck on the weekends so that I'm closer to everyone.
Doing fine here. Lots of mixups this week though! Mostly due to producers/shippers falling behind on getting trailers loaded. Sales must be picking up for snack stuff!Last edited: Oct 6, 2010

Another suggestion since you can't find a self storage, ask the self storage places about RV storage. Many of them will know of a person who rents out space for RV storage, and some are willing to rent out the space for a truck for a week. Also check with local tow companies.Razorwyr Thanks this. -
Holiday shipping has started...Yesterday, 5 stevens trucks all loaded at the same place with Chicken Broth for the holiday season. There were 5 Swift trucks there too! I Know 3 of us are headed to Cally. Snack crackers also start moving for the holiday season.
Bad habit to sleep in the jump seat. Does he have a problem with sleeping on the lower bunk? being that is your bunk? I shake my head when I see a truck driver slumped over the steering wheel, catching a nap. They will eventually do that while driving.
Setting tonight at Little America WY, cold rain. October, could be something else.... -
At the Loves on the border of TX and OK on 75 tonight. Down to Laredo tomorrow.
the only seat I sleep in is the driver's seat, and only with the cruise set.
I was at Little America a few days ago. Cold, but no other weather. I continue to live a charmed life in the weather department. It's almost always just ahead of me, or more often, just behind me.
Right now, all the stars are out and it's 68 degrees at 10pm.
Had breakfast with my brother in Missouri this morning, and dinner with my brother in law in Eufaula OK this evening. (If you call Godfathers at Loves, dinner)
Only problem with all this is I ran out of time on my 14 to get thru Dallas tonight. Was going to spend the night at Waco, but...
So that means I get to drive thru the city during rush hour.
oh for joy. -
Hey guys, I have an interesting question. If you guys develope a heart condition can you all get disability?
-
Like while your on the road???
-
I'm not talking work comp. I'm talking disability form Social Security. If you have a heart condition then you can't drive anymore. So will that qualify you for Disability under SSI?
If you can get disability then you recieve about what you qualify for retirement.
Or do you only qualify for unemployment since you lost your job through no fault of your own. Or are you just dead out of luck and have to live off any savings you have until you can find some other work? I don't think you would know an answer to this Sinister being only 26 you probably don't think about those health issues and retirement much. This is something the seasoned drivers would be aware of.
