Back at home finally after the first phase of otr training. Took 7 weeks to get through. Definitely had an awesome trainer. Better than some of my counterparts I went to school with. I was extremely lucky. 1 accident no damage just rubbed a 4 wheeler in a parking lot. Both my major mountains without a jake because of weather (cabbage hill and donner) That was fun. A week long breakdown in laredo. Didn't see the NE until week 6. Got my dock up in CT. Pay was a little out of whack over some confusion with hotel expenses and a tcheck that hadnt been processed because we never recieved it in the QC. We were sent down to pickup a truck in NJ but some errors in directions had us all turned around. Turns out we had been traveling in circles around it all day but the street we exit on wasn't listed on the sign. Was some kind of county rd instead. Found it all the same at the end of the day and was proud to drive solo through jersey while still in training with the trainer following. And I racked up a solid 10337 miles. Then get slapped with a safety hold 300 miles from the yard over a cit complaint. Went down did my extended road obs through dallas did some parking at TA watched a video and listened to some CDs and off I go again. Enjoying this home time, it's well deserved lol.

In Amarillo tonight, heading into the 'eye of the beast'.
Took forever to get the load figured out. Scaled out at 80,560 and everyone kept looking at the scale ticket..."...if you just adjust your tandems, won't that balance out?"
(tandems were 35,120 and drives 33300)
I kept telling them we could move the wheels to the moon, but that won't make the gross any less.
Finally, after three hours of everyone (at Kraft) pacing and trying to find someone smarter than me to tell me how to fix it, they agreed to take some weight off.
Got out of there at 79,180.
Now I can buy some fuel!
It's days like this that make my head hurt! -
Corporal Clegg how was class for ya today? Did you get through everything with no issues? How long will it be before you get to start driving on the stevens road course?
-
The eye of the beast is correct.
Had OS&D today...wal mart rejected 75 cs of grapes..and I was sent to Denver to deliver them...had to wait for the wind to slow down before I drove down... Now as I was setting at Federal Fruit, the Marten truck that was parked beside me at Walmart pulled in, they had rejected 150 cs of grapes, and behind him, an independent, with 200 cs of grapes. All from Cheyenne. Makes you wonder what the actual reason was.
I am now warm and fuzzy at home....waiting for the blizzard to hit.
Everyone traveling around the Rocky Mountains be safe... it is getting even nastier. -
sitting in new Jersey waiting on delivery tomarrow. Lucked out yesterday at this pilot (i78 ext 12) pulled in around 1030 local time, no open spaces, so figured I'd wait in the fuel island.. just as i pulled my brakes, a truck wiggled out. so I backed up, moved into the hole.. plus it's easy access to the pumps for when i roll out in the morning.
only bad thing, no showers here. I know they were down to just 1 for a while, and now they have turned them off completely.. which is probably why they are the best deal on this route. Oh well, I have enough gear to do a bird bath, so I'm fine.
Hopefully I'll get a load out on Wednesday quick, since alot of our normal pick-ups will be closed on turkey day. Gonna see if I can bug for a preplan for tomarrow, then I have someplace to go.. betting port-o-newark.
Been a rough week-and-a-half. 1500 miles to get paid this week, and so far only 1300 for next... coming off ht sucks. but you have to crawl before you can wall. Just glad I'm not out in the Western storms right now. -
TLea how much snow are you expecting out west from the storms? How much home time will you take? I'm glad you made it home safe. Thanks for all the great info that you post.
-
all depends on where one lives on the snow..here a few inches, and lots of wind.. The mountains around, 3 to 4 ft.
Home time will be 4 days this time, back to work Saturday, weather permitting.
Understand the whole low miles after Home time Comic. Seems hard to get back in the loop. I have never stayed, only fueled at that Pilot, always stay down the road at the TA...yea Paid parking, but with planning, I purchase what I need for the truck there, and then parking is free. They have repaved the entire parking lot, and fixed the broken showers. -
Day 2 done
Well, had my DOT physical this morning and guess what?
Im back on Medical hold again
This time my Blood Preasure was slightly elevated, probably from worrying about that Physical.
It was 140/95
They will recheak me in the morning.
On to better news, I passed the Texas "Special Requirements" Test and now have my C;### A :earners Permit !!!
The place was absolutely packed so I didnt get a chance to try any of the other tests. They plan to take us back there in the morning to see what we can get done.
Found out today that Stevens is taking us to Golden Coral for a free meal Thanksgiving Day.
mmmm I love that place
@yukon2001... hopefully we will be on the skilz course tommorow, but with the holiday this week im not sure how that will effect the schedule for that. -
Sitting here at the J in Cheyenne. Clear skys right now, but it's only a matter of time. Talked with my daughter in Boise. Little snow there, but Boise doesn't get much snow. However, it's 6 degrees. So we'll get smacked with snow, probably over night or early morning, then followed by cold.
Ah! Winter!
Tried to drop at Walmart today, but they wouldn't take it early. I figured, but what the heck...ya don't try, ya don't get!
1415 tomorrow...if the road's are open.
DM says there's a load bound for Ontario Ore coming my way. Want's to repower me with it so I can get home. A bit late, but home, none the less.
So tonight I get a preplan. Pick up in Nebraska (IBC) and deliver to NY.
I called, got night dispatch and asked, "Hey! What gives? I'm suppose to be going home!"
He says, "yea, well pick up. It has plenty of time. you can stop by home for a couple days on your way to NY."
Time for a geography lesson.
"Idaho! Not Iowa!"
Long pause..."uh...isn't Idaho there?"
"There? Where is THERE?"
"Between Nebraska and Illinois?"
"you're a product of public education, aren't you!"
Next thing is the pickup is 0600-2330 tomorrow. Yea, I'll be they're open that late...even if I could drive that far in this weather.
Think next time I'll ask for hometime in San Diego.
Meantime, am I happy for this heater! -
TLea,
Wallyworld was just overstocked on the grapes. They have to order those things about a week or more in advance and if they haven't sold their inventory, they reject them.
My family was in produce. I saw that kind of thing all the time. We bought the rejects and resold them. We usually paid 10 cents on the dollar and sold them for 50 percent of what was usual.
