Emulsified,
I thought that was what was going on with the grapes, have had it happen with apples too. Just was not sure. Tyson, Lexington NE, closed for thanksgiving too. Got to enjoy the communications that don't happen in dallas. You were told there was plenty of time on that NY load, I am sure there is, as the DLD will be sometime Friday.
I have had the same discussion with dispatch, Wyoming isn't that in Michigan?
Bitter cold today... -10 not counting the wind. clear and sunny. -
Hi, I am for sure a "newbie" still in CDL school # my local community college. We are learning on 10 speed Eaton-Fuller transmissions and 48' trailers...I'm doing okay so far, downshifting is still rough and I still miss gears on the upshift sometimes(been in school 3 weeks now), but did good on straight-line backing and looking forward to parallel parking next week. I am interested in Stevens because while the training sounds demanding, it also seems to be be very thorough and I like the fact that I could get the opportunity to drive all 48 states(with a trainer) right outta CDL school, sounds like the best way to gain experience. So my question is: How is the company overall for a "newbie" female? I am prior service USMC(Motor Transport), veteran of Desert Storm(1990-1991), good work/driving history, and weigh-in around 130 lbs., but can do my share of work(not a light-weight). Any advice will be appreciated
because trying to choose a company is making my poor head spin! Happy Thanksgiving all.

Have a safe Happy Thanksgiving all.
Nighthawk325 Thanks this. -
I like the policies at Stevens. The driver is boss and nobody can make you do anything unsafe or illegal.
As for advice... My trainer gave me the best advice when I was just startin out. Ask lot's of questions, two or three times if need be, and if you don't understand something, say so, don't just smile and nod.
You will get lots of practice shifting on the road so don't sweat it too much. You're driving the trailer not the tractor. And the phrase you will get oh so tired of hearing... Get out and look. Even in the simplest of situations always look before backing or in close quarters to an object.
Edit: Almost forgot. Stevens will make you take a physical and drug screen with their doctors on the yard when you get there. And what might be borderline for most doctors issuing a DOT card, they will put you on med hold for futher evaluation. Bring any meds you will be taking, and don't be borderline or over on any of the physical requirements.
Anyways I could go on but I will leave it to the pro's. Best of luck.

But, stevens does train you to drive solo, which is different then most companies that teach you to drive a truck. I can't complain much, next week is looking sweeter already.
Wrapped up my jersey drop today, got a mars load headed for Waco due on sunday..1519 loaded. so Miles looking better now.best part, drop and hook... Should be there Saturday night. Just hop there are some empties.

My how things change.
Got Walmart to take my load early. DM got the preschedule canceled, then worked a three way trade with drivers to get me a repower on a load to Boise. All I needed to do was drive up to Denver and get it.
Started out up 25, got as far as the first exit and turned around. Winds coming directly sideways at 50+. Highway sign says, "No light trailers".
Looked for a couple cars to stuff back there for ballast, but that didn't work out, so called the other driver and told him the problem. Suggested he come down to Cheyenne and make the swap.
Didn't want to do it, but then I just said, "No problem. You go ahead and take your load to Boise. I'll pick up your load in the morning for SoCal."
I knew he didn't want to go to Boise and wanted that SoCal load badly.
A bit over an hour later, he pulled in.
So off I headed. Head into the wind. Mileage sucked until I got past Elk mountain. Roads cleared up, things got better, but I finally had to stop in Ft Bridger. 14 was up.
Now my APU has failed again. Fourth time in three months.
-2 outside, no heat. I am not a happy trucker.
I should get to Boise tomorrow afternoon, so we'll worry about it after the weekend.
Time for me to make some noise, I'm afraid.
Well, everyone, have a good thanksgiving.
I'm going to shut down now and shiver. -
Sorry to hear it Emuls. Stay warm up there.
