Sometimes you can deliver early. I quit calling to see if I can come early. I just show up. So far, Im batting about 600.
Finally got my second pick last night. First pick was on the truck almost before I set the brake in the dock. Actually was out of there a half hour BEFORE my loading appt. Then the second, 20 miles away..well, 14 hours later...
So off from Bakersfield this morning and into the J in Winslow. Heading for a 2300 sunday night delivery in Ft Worth.
Then off to the yard for my 90 day safety.
Thinking I'll take a few days off and fly home after getting whatever needs to be done, finished.
Hey Smkr. don't sweat it. Life will go on. Other than the 'big' one in '76, the only accident I had was a backing one in a TS, just like you. End of day, tired, lousy slots. And just like you, I got out and looked, but I clipped a Pete's headlight and broke the lens that covered the turn signal. Nothing else.
I wanted to buy the lens right then and there so it didn't have to be reported. The truck was an old POS to begin with. He told me, "No, I've already reported it."
They got 5 grand from my company because it was cheaper than fighting it.
Still smarts all these years later.

Yeah, not gonna sweat it. I'm not the type. I got more pissed at myself during schooling than I got at the accident. It happens, like I told the Roehl driver. He never asked how long I've been driving, so I didn't offer. Like they say, never volunteer any info or claim any blame.
Been in a good mood ever since I left the Petro.
They replaced all three batteries. One was 'just a short' as the tech said, and probably ruined the other two.
One of my driver relatives called today just as I was putting grease on my 5th wheel. He's awesome at timing like that. Once I told him about the backing accident, like he said, "Now you're a driver."
    LOL

In Amarillo tonight. Deliver tomorrow at 2300 in Ft Worth, so I'd figured to head down there tomorrow around 0500. That way, I'd get a 10 in before delivering.
Just found out they're expecting 5" of snow here tonight and there's a lot of ice from Witchita Falls all the way into Ft Worth.
    Oh boy!
So I guess I'll leave here (God willing and the snow isn't bad) after sun up, and try meandering south.
Thinking the roads might be better to take I-27 from here to 20. Just stay on the interstate.
    we'll see in the morning.
Guess that means I'll have to get my coat out...

I would stay on US287 south.. I27 around lubock gets even nastier, and icy. Setting here at the Pilot, just west of Indy, waiting for my delivery on Monday Morning. Place is not open on weekends. Repower requests have fallen on deaf ears again. Today was a day of sunshine, sleet, freezing rain, snow, more snow, sleet.... snow... sunshine.
And why is it that SUV drivers do not realize that slush will cause them to loose control as they change lanes at 60 mph?

So here I am hanging out in Smokr territory, with lots of snow on the ground.

To the 007 screen name that pm me I'm sorry to inform you that I guess I don't have enough posts under my belt so I can't pm you back.. but no I'm a newbie into truck driving.. I've drove a stick shift box truck but that's about the biggest thing I've done.. been driving that for two years.. just looking to jump up to a rig and see what I can do.. so to answer your question I will be going there for school.. and I will be coming the same day as yourself..

    Okay, the fun continues.
Yesterday I arrived at my shipper in time to pick up and take it to a truckstop near the receiver for delivery next morning.
Of course, they were closed for some reason.
Dispatch finally tells me they won't open until midnight. Two hours after my 14 ends. So I take my break. I should be able to hook at shipper in morning and arrive at receiver just in time. Big customer, on-time important. Make it by 15 minutes by doing a 5 hour non-stop.
Get there, should be able to be unloaded and able to arrive at next shipper in time to hook up and get to a truckstop for break.
Almost exactly halfway through unloading me, their only forklift breaks down.
Five hours later, its fixed and I get unloaded. Hate live unloads!
Now I barely have enough time to get to next shipper, except these guys left a foul mess in the trailer and the next shipper demands clean and tidy, so I have to get a washout.
I know of a good one half way to next shipper, but I know I won't make it to shipper. Washout gets done, I have less than an hour left on my 14 and about an hour out from shipper. Can't stay at the shipper, no room and no break policy. Will need half an hour to get to nearest safe place from there. So, I'm done for the day about an hour out from shipper.
I should be in Chicago right now dropping this trailer instead of going on break before I even get loaded.
    Thank you Morris.
Of course, its sleeting or snowing all day too.
    UGH

    How's everyone else doing?
Keep the shiny side up, unless you've chromed the frame!

In the yard tonight. Only one page of things to do. Got thru compliance with relatively little blood. Still compressing. Figured out why, tho. Seems on those days where I can do a lot of coasting at faster speeds, I end up averaging more than 58mph. therefore, Im compressing. Never mind it's what I'm actually doing.
    But I'll survive.
Got thru my safety talk in record time. I think it lasted 5 minutes for the talk and review. Annual physical tomorrow. Then two classes, and I should be done...I hope.
Gotta fly up to Chicago on business thursday. Out in the morning, back in the evening. Decided to fly since I'm in the yard.
Lawyers can be a pain in the rear!
There are three rows of tractors lined up in the yard tonight. the third row is next to the driver's lounge. never seen so many tractors in the yard at once. And they all seem to be occupied...not new ones waiting for a home. Trailer lot is pretty much full too.
Got into Ft Worth yesterday about 11, so sat at the Loves on I-20, just west of the 35w. Delivery was 2300 at Target and not allowed there before 30 minutes ahead of delivery time.
Got out of there at 0400 finally.
Good luck on finding a parking spot. It was the 5th Truck Stop (Flying J on the 20 over by the yard) before I finally found a spot.
I was beginning to think I'd just end up driving around until daybreak. Good thing I had gotten a ten in before leaving for my receiver.
As it is, it took dispatch so long to give me the go ahead to come in, I arrived with 5 minutes left on my 14. Traffic was rotten.
That's about it for me. Don't worry Smokr. Only about 5 or 6 weeks left of the really rotten weather.
then you'll be loving it again!

What can I expect to be doing when I get back to go through grad classes? Whats involved? How long does it take? And do classes only start on Mondays?

yes, or you do not get paid for the miles. The yard is like a prison, you can only check in or out with permission.
