Hey Mate sorry sounds like a trip from hell, I had no home time from Oct 14th 2010 (when i started At Stevens) untill i quit Jan 21, 2011, and what your dealing with on planning was mostly the norm,
Those guys dont care they go home every night unlke us drivers on duty 24 hrs a day 7 days a week, no matter even when you are parked up for your 10, or what ever you do your still responcible for your truck and load, we really do not get paid for what we do eh?
But then again that depends on who you work for thank god i now work for the truck company i do, even get treated like a real person, about time these companeys like Stevens were vetted more but guess its the way it is
Be safe out there summers comming

Hey all.
Well, kind of got home, but not really. Last home Christmas. Got there this weekend as I had a Sunday night delivery 50 miles south of home that picked up Friday night.
Still haven't been able to find a parking place where I can leave the truck and have access 24 hours even on Sunday nights.
Usually my home loads for weekends are late Sunday night or early Monday mornings and I need to hit the road anywhere from Sunday 6 pm to 6 am Monday morning. I get into home about Saturday nights most of the time, and all the good places close by noon.
So without a fully fenced and gated lot with those hours I'm stuck staying on the truck until I find one. I used up 200 hours of cell phone this weekend trying to find someplace. Still have over a dozen places that didn't answer, so they are unlikely but still possible.
UGH
Oh, but I can leave the truck at the Kenworth in Fort Wayne. Stevens says it is fine, even though it has no fence on two sides, it has a bar/gate so getting the truck out would mean driving over a grassy berm in good weather or through the snow piles this time of year. Geeze. They close noon Saturday and open Monday at 9. So the truck would be stuck there during hours I have to be available for on the road.
MY fleet manager says he won't send me home unless I find a spot to hold up the truck. Well, he's going to have to send me home weekdays is all there is to it. Or I guess I just go back OTR. Which I wouldn't mind a bit right now. It would be worth it to be home five days a month instead of only for resets every other week or sometimes every weekend. Sometimes its barely for a reset even.
Anyway, did my reset this weekend at 'home', which is wherever I stop my truck anyway. I have the spare room at my aunt and uncles, or the couch at a cousins or brothers. Or a spare room over at my other brothers. Since I don't have a car anyway and would have to use someone elses or get driven around, that means I'd rather stay on the truck anyway. I can park it in a nice quiet lot next to a local motel turned apartments and shower and stuff at my nephews apartment here. He drives for Heartland and has stayed here for years. I just call it home and sleep on my truck.
But it's not safe enough for my fleet manager.
So, hell, OTR sounds pretty good to me right now anyway. 4 or 5 solid days home and five or six or more weeks out between is what I'm doing on this fleet now anyway.
Even when you get home every weekend it's still only for barely a reset.
But anyway, dropped an hour from home, went to Petro to get scheduled maintenance done, air filter etc, got a pickup in Louisville tomorrow going to Chicago rail. One day easy, and if I have a hook (no live load out of Aurora) at Morris or Chicago I can get it out of Chicagoland before my break tomorrow night.
Was going to head down closer for 7am pickup but with these winds on an empty, and after being up all Sunday evening trying phone numbers I'm tired, pissed off and just better to get some rest overnight and do a nice long days driving tomorrow. Well, 9 or 10 hours worth anyway. Should have 500 mile days all week this week since weather looks to be good. That's the only real bonus to this dedicated regional fleet. -
TLea...make me feel confident.
I'm headed for an 1800 delivery of this load in Sacto.
then it's right back down in the valley for a 19 pick produce load, I'll bet.
(what, ME exaggerate?)
got this load as a repower in Dallas. Truck was four hours late. not his fault. someone failed to note he had to wait for hours to come back before he could move from Paris.
Trailer had two bad tires.
Finally get those replaced.
Getting TK code all the way here...ENGINE RPM.
Clear code, good for another couple hundred miles.
Temp's ok, tho.
When trying to get thru to breakdown for tires, got held on hold for 1 hour, 4 minutes.
Have run like a rabid ##### ape to get here. Averaged over 60 yesterday with all the coasting. Donna's gonna have a fit.
In Lake Havasu, getting ready to run last 589 miles. God willing and the creek don't rise, I should arrive there at 10.5 hours.
Lot's of room to spare!
In the meantime, my inverter has quit working. It appears to be a cable connection under the truck. Haven't had the time (in the daylight) to pull the faring off and take a look.
So I'm using my old portable 300 watt unit to keep the refrigerator cold.
Why didn't I just remain a brain surgeon? -
123456 Thanks this.

Hey TLea..was that you I passed on Tehachapi this morning?
Only 660 I saw. I'm the one that was waving my arm out the window.(going downhill) -
Stopped at the Tehachapi loves about 1130 cally time headed east. Was smoke still coming out of my ears????????
As I expected, my QC started beeping right on schedule... why are you sitting, why did you not make all your picks, ..... These small shippers are not open on Saturday afternoon and sundays that is why. Get a clue man, and check the facts before jumping down my throat...
Then my DM says to head for phoenix, he will repower me there, with a load going to Ontario CA for delivery on Tuesday... Ummmm I can't do 620 miles legally in California...so thats not gonna work....ok then just head to Ontario, and repower you their...Okay... no head out I40, and how far can you get, forget that, make the petro in Kingman AZ, and we will repower you there...
So here I am at the petro, awaiting the other truck, who may be here about midnight... 1060 miles away from the delivery, and 23 hours to get this load there... And I get a load to los Lunas.... yea me.... Any bets on getting me a load home from there???? You know to Wyoming!!!!Los Lunas to home is only 740 miles, I have deadheaded farther to get home at my expense, but I will give him a chance.....
snow balls chance in hell I get home with a load.
Smokr, got to love the logic of stevens at times... the KW dealer is good, even though it is not secure... but a spot close to home that you can see, will not do. Then they wonder why drivers will say they are parking at a secure lot, and just going home.Naw Stevens drivers would never do that.

Finally crawled out of the hole after being jerked around DFW for five days.It seems no one would tell me I had a 60 to 80 day safety talk due.As I was getting more and more pissed off by the day w/the crap showing up for my loads I finally said screw it Im coming to the yard.Only to see the lovely 60 to 80 day on my clearance sheet.WTF.They could have told me this 5 days earlier when I dropped a student off outside.--ck no,lets just let him get more pissed off by the day and cost him tons of money. This will make him really happy. My manager tells me its a glitch in the system.I got your glitch in the system.Anyway made it up,only now to be sitting on a target load thats gonna cost me two more days.Im having to fight for every mile I get these days.I didnt use to have to do that.Im worn down,Im tired of complaining.Maybe thats the problem.I told my manager today, know more,im just gonna see what happens. If it doesnt get any better, than I will make decisions accordingly.I think part of what it is is that one of my previous managers spoiled me,and Ive come to expect that.Cie la vie.

Im on the yard. Went through grad class today. Get truck assignment tomorrow morning, I cant wait :
Praying for an APUDryver Thanks this. -
The weather not cooperating? Ok that is understandable. Waiting for 24 hours at a shipper unaccaptable. Does stevens care, yeah right. For all those who have the ugly red buzzard on the door you know what i mean. Layover pay, yeah right. Weather shutdown pay dream on. If stevens were an artist they would be compared to picasso. #### good picture but a terrible reality. I appreciate the opportunity to work for a seemingly good company on the outside, but we all know the dark realities of the "king and his castle" scenario. I am an alliance driver who is going on 3 weeks now of barely seeing a profit. Do i pick up the phone and call around for work constantly, yes i do. Do i ever sit and wait for them to give me somthing to do, no way. This is a game in which you will be broke if you dont try to drum the work yourself.
Sincerely,
Frustrated stevens alliance driver....
