Back on the yard in Dallas. Going through the safety lane was an experience. There about 7 trucks in front of us and it took a whole to get through it. With the snow here the conditions are miserable.

We should be on our way tommorow morning. The truck did have an electrical problem, I just don't know what it is yet.

    KCJ Thanks this.

O.K. I've been reading the good the bad and the ugly about Stevens and Central. What I seem to be getting out of the Stevens threads seems to be there is good and bad in all companies, but Stevens has a good safety department and decent training. If I am reading this wrong let me know because I am scheduled for school on 03/01. I know the pay isn't great and I don't plan on leasing. It just looks like this is the place I want to start,

Hey y'all, is Terry still an instructor down there? And if so, is he still pulling the old "trailer full of sailboat fuel" joke on the newbies?

Formygirlz-I am right there with you! From all I have read about Stevens and every other "training company" I have gleaned one thing for sure and that is there are a lot of people unhappy with their company! So here it is, best training at Stevens and not so hot mileage pay but all the miles you can run vs. a company with not the best training (which ultimately puts you and others at risk) and maybe a few cents more a mile but the mileage isn't there. So I chose Stevens and start orientation 03/07. Good luck to you and maybe I will see you in Dallas.:biggrin_255:

Thanks KCJ that's pretty much what I've gleaned from the threads, So I've decided to go with Stevens. Less $$ per mile, and plenty of miles is better than more $$ but no miles to drive in my book. Not to mention better training. I would rather be a safe driver than a hazard to all around me. I want to do this right.

A heads up for all you drivers wanting to get home at some time.

This past Friday at 4:30 pm I get a phone call from a driver manager, not mine, asking me if a would give up my load so that a driver could get home. I still had 700 miles to go. Asked what load the other driver had, he was empty, and in Temple TX. A dead zone for freight. I said I would help the driver out, but that I wanted a pre plan to keep me moving. Micheal said "okay, I will get back to you. where will you stop?" I stopped in Vernon TX for the evening, stated that I would roll at 5:30 am, so I could be in temple by 11 am. Micheal says okay, I will get back to you. The evening passes, and I go to sleep.

Get up, no phone call, no QC message, so I continue on with my run headed for Robert LA. QC beeps about 7:30 am, figure it is the weather message, and ignore it, until I stop for breakfast in terrel Tx. I figured wrong, it is a repower for hillsboro TX, an 80 mile back track. I send a QC message, what is up, and then call.

Weekend crew has no idea what is going on, no surprise there, I explain what was discussed the night before, and that I wanted paid for the backtrack miles. weekend crew says they can not add the backtrack miles, and his dead head miles to this wal mart load, and can not believe that Micheal had set it up. They cancel the swap.

I had no pre-plan either. Really did not expect that request to be met.

This is not the first time this type of situation has occurred. I do not know what they told the other driver who is trying to get home.

I do get tired of these games, that some of the DMs play. Pushing the problem of getting his driver home, onto the weekend crew.

I am sure the other driver was pissed when the swap canceled message came across his QC. Now had the DM sent the repower message before he went home on Friday night, I would have headed down to Temple/Hillsboro, and done the swap so the other driver could get home, and then deal with getting myself moving again. But to wait until 7:30 on saterday, after I had already started moving, and would have to back track to get there is a sign that the DM really did not care.

I hope that this driver gets home soon.

I'd say you chose wisely young padiwan! Stevens isn't perfect, but no place is. They do send you out for more training time than anyone else and they do expose you to more info than anyone else. While they do expose you to the info, and give you a "test" on it, they GIVE you the answers instead of actually testing your retention or knowledge. This way that "test" is in you record folder and they can say they taught you and you knew it perfectly. It is all up to you to really learn it. But still you do get all that practice/learning while driving with two different trainers for over a month each. And Stevens is one of the very few companies that really does want you to shhut down in bad weather/conditions and not out-drive your abilities. AND NO TIRE CHAINS EVER! ONLY THE CHAIN GANG MEMBERS USE THEM.
