Agreed, Shiftylots, I have nothing to hide, don't do drugs, am in good health, both mentally and physically, but I am still nervous about getting booted from Orientation for something i was never informed of or something the recruiter neglected to tell me. I can be a worry wart, but having such a big, and perhaps costly decision ion front of me, no question can be left unanswered. For what reasons or rumors has anyone heard of people being kicked from orientation that most may not know. I am sure this stuff becomes redundant, but this is the best and most reliable thread I have come across when it comes to Stevens and the truth, and besides we were all in the same position at one time. Thanks

Health is a big reason. Blood Presure, heart problems, blood in urine, failing sight/hearing test, being color blind etc ...

Also, immigration issues, lying on application, stuff like that.

And if your over weight, you may have to take a sleep test, but that doesnt really get you booted.

Welcome all to the Aviary... where you will read the good the bad and the ugly.

The horror stories you here are just that stories from a person with an ax to grind against Stevens, due to them being unable to accept responsibility for their actions.

People do get booted for failing the drug test, (they knew they had to take one), or lying on the application.
Stevens does a complete background check, after you arrive, during the first 3 days of orientation, then you are officially hired on the 4th day. According to federal law, Stevens must verify your employment records for the past 3 years, so bring verifiable documentation of what you were doing if NOT employed by someone else.

Now some people get put on medical hold for high blood pressure, high blood sugar, and now sleep apnea... means work with the doctor to get the condition under control before you start trucking..

Other than that, it is fun, a great time for those with the desire to be a trucker.

I read in an earlier post that one man was kicked out on what he said was a " False Positive" on his drug test. Does Stevens use a registered testing lab for these procedures- I do not do drugs or even drink AT ALL so I dont worry about testing. I guess I just trust this man for his word, and he stated that he never did drugs either. These are hair follicle test right? They are supposed to be very accurate so have you heard of any familiar stories of false positives? I agree anyone who does drugs has no right to drive at all- maybe this guy was just full of bologna- wish I could find the exact posting- thanks for sharing again, hope to see you all soon in the yard!!! I am traveling half way across the country, leaving a steady job- and a young wife and kids to follow this dream. Just looking for clarification to some things that are causing me anxiety, Thanks for your patience Drivers :biggrin_25514:

Just a few things on my experiance. The drug test is just a piss test. No hair follicle, this was as of MArch anyways. As far as the sleep apnea goes, like Cleg said. If you have weight issues then you may be tested. Stevens is a good company, it's some of the people that drive for them that makes is difficult. I had a good trainer for the first phase of my training. At least up to the second to the last week when we were stuck at Donnor Pass and he decided to bring some skank back to the truck.... wel you can figure out what happened from there. What an A-hole!!!! I am not with Stevens anymore due to finding a local job. But you must know that recruiters lie! Like Bill Cheney told us in class. That recruiter did there job! They got you here! I dont care what they told you or promised you, they did there job! Now this is how it really is! My recruiter told me that it was NOOOOOO problem for me to get home at least every 3 weeks if I wanted. B.S.!!!!!!! Not that much freight going through Michigan! After my 1st phase of training I had to try and get home from Tennessee. So I rented a car and came home. I did get $45 back from Stevens for my $200 rental bill. But this was my choice and I dont fault them for that. But I do fault them for getting me home as the run I was on was heading back to Texas and Mich was the other way!
Again I could have switch trainers as well when he decided to share our cab, but this was also my choice. I did make life pretty miserable for him after that! To this date Im sure he is still wondering if I might just pop up on facebook and inform his wife of this. I wouldnt do this but I would like to mess with him cause he is an A-hole. Oh I did say that earlier! LOL!! I wish Stevens had better training pay cause you are out a long time before you get your own truck and can make better money! And if your recruiter told you that you could do some lumping to make extra $$. Yes he lied again! Very few chances to do this!
Good luck to you all! Love still following this thread and seeing how everyone is doing!

Thanks 007Driver, once again the most valuable information a newbie can get about Stevens comes from the aviary. I admit that before Smokr started this forum my outlook on Stevens was a bit grim. Even back then I thought these guys with nothing to do but whine were just that.....whiners!! To all the " Instructors of this trade"- smokr, TleaHeart, Emulsified, Corporal Clegg, Formygirlz- and others I am sure I forgot-THANKS. I have been a student of all of yours for awhile now, just ask my wife how many hours weekly I have spent catching up on all the load counts, deadhead miles, layover, repower, and just real life stories from each of you over the past year. I am obsessed with getting on the road, I will take the loads given!!! I have all my stuff in order, tax information for the last three years, college transcript, good health, and 3-4 good changes of clothes!!! Mind you this is all stuff you taught me to get ready, not a recruiter. Thanks again to all you great drivers-:biggrin_25514:

Stevens does a piss test.. with an instant dip stick read. If that dip stick read comes up positive, you are put on hold, until the lab does a complete analysis. This may take up to 2 weeks, and you the driver can do nothing, and are paid nothing during this time. That is a "false Positive" in a nut shell. Many never return, as they know in their own mind they were positive, just thought they could slip through. Hair test are expensive.

oo7driver, glad you put in your experience. Hope that local job is treating you well.
My continuing complaint about Stevens is getting home when I request it.

    Shiftylots Thanks this.

HaHaHa, Oh boy, Addicts do not accept responsibilty very well. I am sure 90% that fail a drug test will say "How did that happen?" "The test is wrong!" All the time knowing full well why they failed, in a word, I D I O T S.

So I have had numerous surgeries, none that should physically prevent me from passing all tests, but I should get m records beforehand, right? I should get my transcripts and proof of degree prior to taking the trip down, yes? Obviously better safe than sorry, but the more I investigate the more it seems i should take with me. It sure does seem like a lot to take on a bus. Anyway, another noob question, I have read on what to take with for training, but it would be nice to hear what the people who have actually gone through training would take with them on training after having gone though it. i.e. What would you take with you now during training, the necessities. Smokr, thanks for starting this thread, and to all the others, thank you for your continued posts. I look forward to seeing you all on the road sometime in the near future!!!
