Back to some seriously annoying newbie questions.
When you deadhead to pick up a load are you getting paid anything?
I know it is unadvised to do so, but when you are asked to repower and you loose a good load because of it do you have any say in the matter?
I have heard a lot of newbies at Stevens spent more time in NYC than anywhere else, any truth to that?

Never been to NYC myself. Not going to either lol

Yes, you get paid for deadhead and for loaded miles at the same rate.

Even as a company driver, you do not have to take a repower unless you are running late. Sometimes its OK to take a repower to help out, but you have to look at it and decide. But if your load is running late then you have to give it up.

From what I know, have proof with of an income of $13,000 or more for the last three years- w2, tax papers, that type of proof.
If you cannot provide this you need to have proof of why- transcripts are a good example- must be full time schooling however!!

I average NYC about once a month r so you may go a couple times in one month but may not go back for a couple month. Don't let all the stories freak u out other drivers try to paralze u with fear of NYC.Its tight but doable if it was as dangerous as people make it sound stevens wouldn't go. And if u get a hold of a multi drop meat or even better those "naked drinks" that pkup in walnut,CA with 3 or 4 drops in NYC those pay great! The best part is that NYC is never boring,

To start with if you had recient surgurys I would bring anything from your Dr. stating that you are able to return to work and with no restrictions. And of course your list of meds. Had a guy in my o.r.1 that was on his 2nd trip through cause he had med issues and they wanted more info from his Dr. If your concerned at all then talk to your Dr and let him know what your doing so you have phone access to him or his office along with a fax number. Sometimes it takes an extra day or so before you may get issued a trainer cause your waiting on info to get sent back and forth.
Bring the biggest can of flea spray you can find, cause your hotel will be a skank hole for bums. One of the few bad things I will say about Stevens is the hotel they put you up in for your orientation. IT IS A HOLE!!! My trainer had a lot of food and laundry stuff before I got on the truck so that helped until I could get to a store to buy some stuff. Love the pop tarts!!

Got empty n michigan a couple of hours ago, they sent me a load that don't pick up till monday at noon........grrrrrrrr only 2300 this week. If they can't get us the miles they need to cut us a break on payments. Geez. Maybe they will need help with a repower with some miles on it, if the ever elusive luck decides to show up.

Thanks hikintrucka, I fear not!!! Nothing will hold me back from driving a truck- as far as the hotel beeing a mess, oh well guess I will just have to fend off some roaches and fleas, not gonna slow me down. Still cant get back ahold of a recruiter, guess they will just have to hear my voice on a machine once a day until I get a call back. Any truckers out there located in Oregon, how hard has it been to find loads this way for home time. I have only seen 1 Stevens truck in Oregon in the past 10 years. Seems like Swift, Knight, England, May, & Prime are regular. I have been excepted to prime as well, send me some insight that may help me with this decision. Still Stevens is my first choice, the training is top notch, and the word is all the whiners get weeded out, I like that!!! Shoot me some ideas. Thanks again to all the drivers who have helped me without even knowing it:biggrin_25514:.

e logs= paycut. you can defend it.and make it sound good.but watch your pay check drop.it will.it was just enough for me to leave the long haul living behind.this past january.i have bills to pay.the gov/corp regs are running trucking down for the everyday citizen driver.the fat cats want the long haul driver to work for peanuts.even though you guys are away from home most of the time.e logs is just one more way to lower a truckers income. in the name of safety.of course

the only good thing a found with e-logs is that the dispatchers sometimes make crazy-### repowers, sometimes have me running crazy hours, now with e-logs, i just say "hey man i dont have the hours to do it".
