Shiftylots, good luck with your training and new career. I spoken with several Stevens drivers and each had nothing but good things to say about their training. I am glad to see the Stevens threads are getting a little more active and enjoy reading them. Once you get started with your Stevens adventure, please post as much as you can...I'm sure there will be a lot of people interested!

Will do retired, one question for the guys who have been to Stevens. Do you have access to WiFi anywhere on the yard, or perhaps at the hotel?
-
Wifi at the hotel costs, but not expensiveShiftylots Thanks this. -
Wow. Disappear for a few days and the posts run rampant!
Well, I'm back. Spent some time in Portland cleaning out blackberries, trimming trees at the old homestead. Made my brother put up the Johnny Walker. Dropped my wife off as I headed back thru Boise.
Nice to get back to work where I can take it easy!
Have a load I picked up above Pendelton, headed to Cedar Rapids tomorrow morning. Sitting at the J outside Omaha tonight.
Time to get some sleep so I can start running at oh dark thirty. -
Glad you enjoyed your work time, in the hills of Oregon emusified.
Got a meat load out of Amarillo... have never seen the loaded lot that empty.. the entire left two rows were empty... both when I dropped, and the next morning when I picked up... Load is going to Mechanicsville VA. Stopped in Dandridge TN tonight, will run in close tomorrow, for My 1am appt...
Had an interesting talk with another lease driver in amarillo, while I was bobtail..
He could not believe how calm I was over a 360 mile dead head to amarillo, and then taking a 10 to 15 hour break waiting for the load.. My answer was it will give me 1800 miles by Friday Morning, only need 1200 more for the week.
He was telling me about being stuck in Ogden the week before... and that he was offered a load down to Phoenix, but refused it, as it burns too much fuel. ???? I have ran that run, 2 days, 720 miles, and some great scenery, and my fuel mileage did not suffer. So he sat for another 1 1/2 days... and was complaining about his miles for the month.
Smokr, thanks, I would also try and get your QC looked at... sounds like it has a problem.. I have watched another Stevens Driver do all of what you said about the PTI and Daily Check call, took him about 5 minutes. -
I hate moving lol. Told my DM 8 weeks ago I needed hometime this past weekend to move. The weekend before he brings me to the yard so I can graduate ansd get my Cruise turned on. I told him I could wait and I was worried that it would screw up my hometime for the move. He assured me it would work out. Well, it did ... barely. Got to the yard on Sat and didnt get outta there till Wed. So a load to Georgia was as close as he could get me. So I deadhead the 443 miles home getting there Thursday night and get moved over the weekend. only 800 paid miles for the week so Im in the hole big time.
Got back rolling This past Tue morning and so far Im looking good. 700 mile trip to Alabama. They unload me quick (1 1/2 hrs) and I head to my next pickup 60 miles away. They take me early and Im rolling 650 miles to Ohio. Already got a preplan 2300 miles to Sacramento and it picks up at my delivery so no deadhead. Looking like Ill be outta the hole soon if all goes well. -
Congrats on your graduation corporal clegg, are you going to start training at all?
-
Shiftylots Thanks this.
-
I understand that Corporal Clegg, just wondering if you feel the incentive (Money) is worth the extra headache. You are Leasing correct?
Just thought I would tell the guys applying who dont have as good a recruiter as I do some truths, at least as far as I know-correct me if I am wrong.
Stevens will not hire you right now without 3 years of constant work history- unemployment compensation does count as work history.
You cannot apply schooling money towards this requirement unless you have a degree to back it up- not just prof of going!!
Money for food is NOT provided for the first week you are in Texas- it is not until you pass the drug screen and physical that they will start putting any loans/forwards out for you!!
Misdemeanors in the last 5 years will disqualify you right now.
Any felonies-forget it!!!
You will most likely never see home in the first 3 months of training, 4 if you are going to school first, and then more realistically every 6-8 weeks for the first year!!
These are things I thought were a bit unclear in the application process, hope it helps someone!!! -
Also, Crosslands offers wifi for about $5 a day.
I had my laptop with me during school and my 5 weeks out with a trainer. I am 99% sure that its staying home this next 3 weeks out with the finisher. I just dont get signal very often and its just so much of a pain to lug around. Once I get my truck it's going on with me though.
