Buona Serra, amici.
I have returned. Currently sitting in the Denver airport, waiting for my connection to Dallas. Back to the grind... er road.
Had a great time.
Catching up on posts.
Boy, are you guys prolific! Where do you get the time to write so much?!
Will see what rumors I can dig up in the yard tomorrow. Hopefully will be dispatched right away.
See you all on the road. -
Frog
Sorry about your brother. Hope to see you back soon. -
Being a Dad is wonderful. And I have very, um, "fond" memories of crossing the pass on I-70.
Rule #1: Always follow the Blue Lights.Last edited: Sep 13, 2011

We don't follow the blue lights. We do not run I70 between denver and grand junction from oct 1st to may 31st. Trucks must Carry chains and we do not carry chains.
Still waiting on JBS. DLD was 0800 might be Ready around 0900. -
I made that journey once long ago, in a very nasty winter storm, with significantly reduced visibility, in a Chevrolet Caprice, pulling a trailer that was WAY over gross. I found and followed a blue light coming out of a weight station, not having any idea where it or I were going. Fortunately, I did manage to stay on the roadway and get where I was going! But it was interesting. And not a trip for the faint of heart. -
My sympathies, Frog. Lost my brother earlier this year. Was also able to get home in time for the needed activities.
So, today I am sitting in Morris waiting for a load that was supposed to be done by 12:30 yesterday afternoon. The trailer is in the door being loaded now, but will be a while I'm told. How long? They won't say.
Sigh.
So, there goes the good start to a good week. My new FM already pulled both preplans I had.
This is no job for someone who wants predictability and regular schedules.
On the upside, I have excellent mobile internet signal and am downloading and catching up on Hulu. -
Sitting at SR Forwarding in Laredo.
Repowered this load from Dallas yesterday. Turns out some of the bins of meat have slid off the pallets. Wondering if I had problems.
Nope.
Said the load shifted 'quite a ways' forward.
I told OS&D, "Tyson loaded it. How can it shift FORWARD?"
Tyson is thinking I should "run this up to Omaha" where it can be handled.
Omaha?
The border is 10 miles south!
OS&D asked my thoughts (imagine that!). Told them I can't account for the last driver, I didn't have any problems and Tyson loaded it, then sealed it. Maybe they should use load locks?
OS&D then hinted I should run it up on my dime.
OH NO, NO, NO!!
Give me a load assignment or I'll drop it at Alvarez with a full fuel tank.
so here I sit.
Yea, smokr...you're right. This is no job for someone who wants predictability! -
Off the yard and running.
Heading north. Sure is strange behind the wheel again.
Wonder how bad my backing got.
Got a load for Target in Cedar Falls. My favorite place. -
Sorry for your loss frog. that is my greatest fear being on the road.
Picked up a load in Austin that had 8 drops. 1 in Los Lumas, NM, 2 around Phoenix, 3 in Riverside, CA and 2 in Brea, CA. that was 2100 miles. Was late for all the drops except the Riverside drops. DM told me considering the circumstances (new optistop that I had to backtrack for, out of hours, ect) I kicked butt on it.
As for me I had 2 picks in Bakersfield CA. I was in Brea, CA when I got the load and was already late when I got it. First pick loaded me righgt away. Second pick I backed into the door at 6p and pulled away at 4a. Took that to Target in Ft Worth. 1700 miles.
Load Im on now loaded in Grand Prairie and delivers just south of Lexington, Kentucky tomorrow night. Sitting at Pilot on I-65 till about 8p tomorrow. I think this is about 900 miles.
