you must get an extra two cents a mile to defend stevens anytime someone has a problem with stevens you are always there to defend them. Thats not trucking they tell you things are going to get done in a time frame they should make sure it happens. I also think they need to revamp the training program it sounds to me most do it for the money and and if u do not get your training in well i guess thats trucking

    guess thats trucking

The "time frames" you talk about are general in nature. Whether this individual or that individual meets the very strict new requirements of CSA2010 in the minimum times depends on the individual. And not everyone with "experience" has good experience. Many of us develop very bad habits that are very hard to break. As one with only a couple of posts and short experience here, I recommend that you open up and listen to those with vastly more exposure to "trucking."

Unlike you and me, they know whereof they speak. He's not "defending" Stevens--he's giving you valuable insight. Use it as you want. Or ignore it.

The trucking industry changed a whole lot with the implementation of CSA2010 and those changes make companies do things. That plus the pretty significant failure rate by new hire employees at starter companies means the company will make you pay for training, one way or the other. Deal with it. Or stay out of the business.

That's trucking in 2011 and beyond.

Hey, if he's getting 0.02 more, I'm getting cheated!
No, most trainers don't do it for the money, but even if they did, so what?
As long as they train competently, what does it matter?
I'll agree, there are some who just keep the trainee for the miles, but most of us make concerte?d efforts to train properly.
Now a consideration for those that like to bag on the trainer...
Did you ever stop to consider some of these students are just not ready for prime time? We look at them and figure, "another week and they'll be ready to pass, but not yet."?
If we fill out their packet and say they're not ready, then send them back, they may end up having to do two or three weeks with another trainer and it certainly doesn't make the trainee feel good.
I won't pass a trainee unless I feel they have accomplished the preset goals of the program.
    Some take longer than others.
I've yet to have a trainee that hadn't accomplished all his requirements (except mileage and time) in the first four weeks. Usually sooner.
But that doesn't mean they're ready to release on the next finish trainer.
Other times, freight just doesn't move in the right direction.
If we finish our 35 days and requirements deliverying into Cheyenne, I can almost guarantee you our next load isn't headed to Dallas. It may take a few days until we can either pass a major airport or hook up with a Dallas bound truck we can transfer the student to.
Oh, and one more thing to dispel this oft quoted mis conception that trainers only use the trainee for the miles: Ask any trainer in this company. We can get as many trainees as we want. Often we can arrange to drop one off and pick up the next at the same truck stop.
So if we do it for the miles, who cares which warm body we use!
Quit bagging on the trainer. Most of us do a very consciencious job and take it seriously.

Well yesterday was the first day of my student's 4th week. We celebrated it by bumping the dock in Syracuse. He now has all his qualifications except time and mileage.
Think he's hovering around 6300 miles right now, with two weeks to go.
Deadheaded down to Lancaster PA for a candy load and now headed to Ogden.
My goal is to have his mileage completed before he gets off the truck next saturday. He'll be short a week, but I'm home starting the second.
Hate to cut him short like that, but my wife is having surgery on the third and I need to be home to cause her great pain and misery.
Ran into a driver in Carlisle that use to work for me.
He's living in Ocala and pulling a tanker for Indian River now.
Stay around this business long enough and you're bound to run into all kinds of people you don't expect.
    Hope everyone's doing OK.
See you in the truck stops.

Wow. You say these things in public, Emulsified! Yet you are still alive and well. I am impressed.

After many years of marriage there isn't anything you can tell her that she doesn't already know.

No offense taken. If stevens deserves a lump or two, I'm first in line. But I'm also first in line to defend it where I think misinformation is being bandied about.
No...Stevens isn't for everyone. I don't think ANY company fits all.
You just have to turn over a few rocks, sometimes, to find the one that fits you.
Good luck in your future endeavours.
