Depending on your trainer and his diet, that chem gear might well be worth packing. The mask, anyway.

That's an excellent point. I'll pack a web belt in case there's no room and I have to wear it. I don't report until 11 Mar. If I order the filters now, they should come in time. I'm assuming the rookie is just SOL and gets whatever space he can make. I'm going to guess that lugging a laptop is probably a horrible idea. Being an idiot, I'll bring mine anyway. My room in Afghanistan was 8'L X 6'W X 8'H, I can live small....

Well, just got off of my first NYC run. Went to Hunts Point. The NYC guy that routes you in said to exit 1C after the GW bridge. All the sign said was exit 1 so I elected to keep going straight thinking I would see 1C but nooooo... I slowed down and got him on the phone. He had me take exit 5 and I came in a back way.

While I'm not in any rush to go back, it wasnt as bad as I thought that it would be. I went in on Saturday, unloaded fairly quick but had to take my 10 there so I left out this morning. Im sure the weekend wasnt near as crowded as a weekday though.

While sitting there I got 2 preplans that were cancelled and the third one I got to keep. Picked up in Hershey, PA (that was a Chinese fire drill) and deliver in Ogden UT on Friday.

I sent my app online Friday night, I got reply email saying someone would contact me in 48 hrs, makes sense. (weekend). I have not been behind a big rig in 10 years. I still have my CDL but no endorsements. I can drive anything, hell I can even fly a plane so I am not worried about the drive part. ? Will Stevens have me go thru the full classes before going with a trainer? If they do I don't mind as I am sure I could use the time in training again. Any replys would be greatly appreciated.

8x6x8 is remarkably similar to the inside of the truck.
You'll sleep on a bunk the same size as a cot, and you'll have your luggage on the foot of it. I did fine two months sleeping with two full size bags and my laptop.

Got an empty and I'm ready for my pickup at noon (live load) going to Fort Worth Wednesday, then I'll be on the yard for the week.
Hard to tell how easy or hard it will be to get on a trainer's truck during Thanksgiving week and weekend.
Managed to take almost everything off the truck during time down last week, so I'm pretty well set for that month out relearning mountains and other stuff I've not had to deal with for 18 months.
The dedicated fleet is nice and all, but the hometime isn't satisfying or restful. Having a 34 hour reset as your entire hometime, and that not every weekend, makes you only want more. You can't get anything legal or governmental done on a Saturday or Sunday, and you often don't even get that Saturday.
I'd much rather be out 4-6 weeks and have 4 or 5 days home in a row when I can park the truck and leave it for a while, instead of having to sleep on it and 'visit' home for a few hours.
The newest fleet manager was doing pretty good getting me home Friday night so I could park the truck and go home until Monday morning. If that was a real possibility for twice or so a month, then this fleet could be livable. I'm not betting on that though. Plus the same shippers over and over going to the same receivers over and over is getting tedious. Even that is manageable, though. The tipping point is her new supervisor who makes running on this fleet seem like you're on some kind of permanent fleet 50 situation.

You will enjoy the change smokr. I just think you only nEed a couple weeks out to refresh your skills. But what do i know?

Made my 0700 delivery done at 0830 then around the building to pick up. May be all day to get loaded. And then it is only 730 miles and delivers wed afternoon. So much for driving on Tday. Like i will get loaded late on wed. Maybe it would be better to take all holidays off.
