I kissed everyone who let me! Right between the cheeks and used tounge as well. LOL
I do, CW is his initials. I'd rather not give out someone's name without their permission.
It's not like the tractor is new or anything. It was an Alliance truck, nearly half a million miles on it. Just sounds new due to the number. 2007 Peterbuilt 387. I am surprised it wasn't renumbered though. Maybe they will give it a 6000 number during refurb/detail?

Congratulations Smokr I've been watching the shop pull letters off contractor trucks and prepping them for two weeks now. I hope when my training is done I get as lucky.

Congratulations, Smokr. I've been keeping up with the aviary, and it has been interesting. You are a lucky dog to have gotten a Pete 387 especially since it has an APU and inverter in it. I got assigned probably the nastiest truck on the yard, Truck #6703. The previous inhabitant had a cat, and I swear he never cleaned the truck out at all. Even after going through the detail shop, there were hairs and coke/coffee stains everywhere;the doors, the dash, the floorboard. I cleaned it up a hell lot more than detail did, I'll tell you that. I didn't complain about it though. I'm sure I could have ran it back through detail and the shop, but then I wouldn't have gotten out of there as fast as I did. I got my truck on Thursday and rolled out Friday afternoon. Plus, I got most of the cat/hair/funk smell out of it by smoking 2 packs of Marlboro reds a day and dousing it with Febreze and those stick-em-on gel air fresheners. Hopefully in a few weeks I'll get into Alliance and get my lease truck, then this APU-less Caterpillar no mpg gettin' T2000 will go on to another grad fleet person. I hope to get a Pete 387 with a Cummins ISX. The Pete's seats are just so much more comfortable than the T2000's, though I like the interior set up of the T2000 a bit more. I don't know how comfortable the T660 is, maybe TlaHeart can fill us in on that. Well here I sit at the Aurora,CO Flying J on Saturday night. I picked up a Tropicana load in the greater L.A. area Thursday evening, and this loads' first drop isn't until Monday AM. My Dm told me on Thursday to run it up to Salt Lake and that I'd get it repowered there. I did, sent in a repower request, and sat there from 6PM last night 'till 8AM this morning, no repower. So I rolled from Salt Lake to Denver. I've sent in another repower request. Surely someone is nearby that is out of hours that could sit on this load for a day. Anyone got any ideas?

Others will chime in who have more experience, but so far I can answer as my limited 3 months will allow.
Running area is all the 48 states and if you qualify Canada. Florida and Washington states are pretty slow though.
There is plenty of freight for those who want it, you just have to check in and be available instead of sitting and waiting.
The equipment is mostly KW T2000, a lot of Pete 387 and a very few KW 660. Stevens tends to keep the trucks under three years old, in good to great condition, and pretty darned clean.
New drivers get limited to 62, leasers go 68.
The atmosphere is mostly friendly and easy going. Considering there are over 2,000 employees, almost all drivers, many moods and atmospheres can exist at any time.
Hometime is one day each week you're out, up to a total of 7 days. You can only take a lease truck home, otherwise you must leave your company truck at a Pete or KW or ThermoKing dealership. So far most drivers get home when they request it in time, but a few say they don't, most likely because they don't remind their DM often enough or early enough.
The pay is generally 26 a mile to start, 31 at one year. Leasers start at 85 cents.

    Drop'n'Hook Thanks this.

Us newbies tend to get long load times and sit on them. The drivers with longer history with the company get the better/shorter load times and longer miles and get repowered when requested a lot sooner than us. Just the way it is until you've paid some dues and proved your track record.

Delirious, in addition to what Smokr has said, I have found that the weekend dispatch crew is not nearly as effective as the normal weekday crew. That coupled with the endless hold time on the phone for things such as weather/safety talks can sometimes make for a very frustrating weekend.

As an example, my last trainer sent in a qualcomm message at 0830 on Sunday morning requesting the dispatcher call him. The phone call was not returned until well after 1800 that evening. In between that time, several hours were spent on the phone waiting for safety. The phone system repeatedly told him he was number 16 in line waiting to be answered. Needless to say the weather talk that should have happened in the morning did not happen until well into the evening.

I am not complaining about Stevens, however, the phone/communication system really needs an upgade.
