a 45 minute road test in dallas traffic... 3 years ago I got to do the 3 hour tour of dallas during evening rush hour traffic... all because I had hit 2 dear, and a road hazard called fallen trees limbs in Ohio.
Had a good discussion with Harold on that one too... What where you driving in that kind of wind for?
Show me where anyone predicted that hurricane/tropical storm going that far north?
I was headed for the truck stop just 7 miles up the road to shut it down.
He had no answer, but I played their game, watched the videos and did the road test, that the red shirt after an hour said we are wasting our time, head for the yard... took over an hour to get to the yard.
Any incident gets you a road test. Fleet 50 is a joke anymore... sorry emu but it is.
Stay on top of them flight...
so if you take another loaner truck to Florida, then what do you do with that truck, when you go to pick up your truck after christmas? Once again Stevens is not thinking past today. Or are you just stay close to dallas for a week then flying home?

The loaner truck is so I can get a couple of loads in before I go home. I will fly home, and then fly up to NJ afterwards...at least that's what we're thinking right now.
-
And if you had made one more pass around the lot that morning and if the deer hadn't walked across the thicket just then and if the other driver had used another pump and if you never accepted the job offer from Stevens and if...well, heck, if you had been born 2 minutes later, none of it would have happened. If...
Stooooopid.....
You have learned to play the Harold Game and you play to win. Well done. -
So it sounds like when you hire on they expect you be omniscient. I hate to say that is expecting a lot considering if that were the case I would be super rich and own the trucking company rather than drive for it. Just saying glad it is working out in your favor so far flight.

OK, guys, this is the REAL reason for the road tests, videos and fleet 50:
If the company fails to 'mitigate' potential future incidents via additional training, they stand to be smacked by a lawyer if you are involved in a serious accident later.
The thinking goes like this:
Plaintiff Lawyer: "So, Stevens Transport, your driver had a serious accident where he hit a deer and KILLED it. A serious fatal accident! What did you do to insure your driver was properly trained and qualified to drive SAFELY on the highways, subsequent to that mortal incident?"
Stevens Lawyer: "Nothing. We felt any deer that ran in front of a semi had a suicide ideation problem. We simply accomodated their wish."
Plaintiff Lawyer: "So you turned an untrained, unsafe and totally dangerous driver loose onto the motoring public, to cause mahem and grevious recklesness to those innocent and unsuspecting innocents, like my client without any intervention on Stevens part. How can you justify such aggregious endangerment?"
Stevens Lawyer: "Our discernment with your client's trying to pass on the driver's blind side, while driving in the breakdown lane, during a snowstorm in the dark, is a public service to the motoring public whereby insuring your client will no longer participate in the gene pool."
So you see...it's all about loss mitigation.TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
Sounds like you've heard my ex-wife, the lawyer, in court, spouting all manner of irrelevant silliness.
Corporal_Clegg Thanks this. -
Love it Emu I just had to say something I knew why but I think sometimes they get a bit ridiculous with the fleet 50 thing. If some one hits you and you are parked and in the sleeper berth there is not much that can be done and that should be considered. I do understand the reason why they do it though. Evil Scum called Lawyers make it necessary.
-
I know the feeling.
Was parked in the overflow area of the TA in Santa Rosa, NM. alongside a zillion other trucks.
Rained all night long.
In the morning, I and several other trucks were up to our axles in mud.
Had to be towed out.
The tow truck operator pulled several of us out that morning.
Harold: "Why did you park there?"
Me: "So I could ensure my continued membership in Fleet 50."
Harold: "Membership? You're the Admiral of the fleet!"
Then it was off to the training office to watch a movie on backing. -
I watched that backing movie yesterday while waiting for my road test. "Backing is easy!!" Watch how easy it is while I do it in my cabover with no sleeper and a 48' trailer!!"
I finally cleared out today, and got my loaner truck. A 2009 T2000...yay. Got the keys and went to take a look. Guess what?! It wasn't ready surprise surprise! It still needed to be detailed. I drove it to the detail shop and came to the hotel. -
He's the driver its always are fault, even if you are sleeping in bunk.
