Question - I get back to the yard yesterday about 1800 planning on leaving out this morning after a good nights sleep (which I didnt get). So this morning I discover the truck isnt ready to go. Cherry said that Cummins has to come out and take a look at something that is cracked. Said that I'm #3 in line with Cummins. This tells me I will probably be here until at least tomorrow.

Question is, will this make me eligible for yard pay? If so when would it start, when I got back at 1800 yesterday?

What makes me mad is the truck has been at the yard since 2/20 and they still dont have it ready to go! I know that its busy but come on!

The truck is NOT a priority unless the driver is ready to be dispatched. does not matter when you got there, the key time is when did you clear central clearance? And once you do that the truck is then scheduled to be worked on. I can see that they want to prioritize the trucks that drivers are waiting on, but to ignore a truck setting there for a week also makes little sense.

Something is cracked, and cummins is working on it, plan on another week. Just my experience.

Sorry I wasnt clear. I did everything on my list and cleared central clearance on the 20th. They even came for the truck twice the night of the 20th.

Then the question is, when were you ready to be dispatched? Since you took time off, the first 24 hours is free, after you come back from your time off. Then you must be unable to be dispatched due to the truck for another 24 hours.

    Thanks for the info!

Dm called me around 10 or so asking what was going on. He said that he would get the status on the truck. I never could find Cherry.

Anyway I finally called dm after lunch and he said truck was ready! Found cherry and he said truck was ready. I told him that I had been in the truck all day and no one ever looked at it so why did I waste the day when I was told it wasn't ready? He just mumbled.

Loading right now in Farmers Branch then on to a 5 drop load in AR, MO and IA.

    Anyone,
I am over 65 and very much want to get into trucking. I have my CDL permit here in Colorado and plan on attending truck driving school in March. Does anyone know what my chances are of getting hired? I am physically fit, no drugs, no accidents or tickets, no questionable prescriptions, passed my DOT for getting the permit and entrance into trucking school. I just don't want to be wasting my money if I can't get hired because of my age. I am hoping to work for Stevens.

    Any info would be appreciated.

I met one of our trainers whose student was 68 years old. So no age alone won't disqualify you.
