Smokr, glad to see you passed with flying colors. I hope they give you your original truck back. I have been on this pete for two weeks and it really is a good truck.
I will be on the yard in the morning. I have to be in roll call at 0800 and then the CSA 2010 class. After that I am more than certian safety is going to want to have a chat with me. If I make it off the yard tommorow I will be lucky. -
Sorry to hear about your situation! I am sure things will work out.
I also thought about getting a bike to put on my truck, but I honestly have not had any time after I stop for the night.
On a positive note, I have lost 20lbs since I started orientation until today.
I had it to loose....lol -
Yup. the meat patch. Everyone's favorite place. However if you can strategerize (a little virtual bush lingo there) when you go to the patch with your driver manager, you can really make the time worthwhile. If you're very low on hours, the meat patch is a perfect place to be. Drop your trailer, reset your 70 and then roll like hell after that.
When solo, I try to run a triangle from Hershey's in pa to edwardsville, il. Edwardsville to pueblo co. grab a load from holcomb, liberal or dodge city and then run that same circle again or better yet, go west young man. My other favorite circle is to get west and pick up produce from California going to indiana or if i have the hours, connecticut.
Keep in mind that it's not always possible, but if you work with your driver manager and give him/her an idea of what to look for, they can help you out. My current driver manager is all about keeping rolling especially with students aboard. He's the repower machine.
I just got off some time off ,so of course income is low, but savings is ok so nothing to worry about there.
One piece of advice that tleahart had mentioned is to get comfortable. Don't sit at the meat patch at the shipper. It's dusty and smells like cow droppings. Get to a truck stop and pay for a couple showers if you have to, or really go for luxury at the motel 6 or equivalent place and just relax for your reset. There's no need to sit and suffer in the dust.Fyr Thanks this. -
It seems that no mater what you haul, there are some real nasty places to go!
Fyr Thanks this. -
Hay Ya'll think'n about going to Stevens for my CDL...the recuiter will be calling me back on Monday, but for now anybody got time to give me the rundown on the ins & out...I first thought I would go Prime but after talking to a member of my family...I guess you have to BEG for any home time & that's not newbee chatter 7,8,10wks out with them...I've been told Stevens is good

The meat patch...ugh. lol
Today I cleared through Doc and got my clearance sheet completed. Talked to the truck manager and found out that my truck will be back Wednesday or so and I can get back on it.
Now I just have to survive until then on forty bucks and change. Going to be heck digging out of this hole!
Then I have to get home soon to do taxes and take care of all the things needing to be done back there yet! Going to have to cut the home time short if I'm going to pay any bills etc.
Tricker Treater, I can't speak about home time. I've been with Stevens four months now, and still not been home. One month schooling etc and an admin hold, six weeks with trainer one, then five weeks with trainer two, and I passed up going home between trainers in order to get it all done. Now one month solo and two weeks were on sick leave. Not Stevens fault I've not been home though.Fyr Thanks this. -
But you do work you butt off chaining and tarping. I have lost 20 lbs in 8 weeks.
No place is perfect. You just have to weigh the positives with the Negatives and choose which makes sense for you. I do not drive for Steven's, they are an excellent company! -
What do ya'll think of Stevens how school what the program like...I'm in MI & I did a online app today...I've seen some real horror stories on here about them...but ya'll are there...are you getting"paid training?!?"
-
Once you are on a trainer's truck you get paid $350 a week minus fed taxes every Friday at 10am. $26 deductions start about a month later for payback on tuition etc.
I was always paid on time and what I was supposed to be paid. Once on my own truck I was paid for each load about two days after sending in the papers after delivery of that load.
I have not yet had any problems being paid what I was owed. Once there was a question about actual mileage, but that was taken care of when my DM called and asked why I showed 26 miles more than his program showed. I was near that town, but the other side, not where he though that truckstop was, so once he found the place I had overnighted he okayed the difference in mileage.
The schooling is pretty good, but the real training comes when you get on a trainer's truck. Then you get the experience and practice.Fyr Thanks this.
