Hey Flight, let us know how much you end up paying for your hotel accomadations. Stevens hotels may not be the Hyatt, and you may have to share a room, but they are trying to be as cost effective as possible for those of us who go to work for them without any savings to fall back on. My hubby started out with NO MONEY in the bank, he was sending his entire paycheck to his wife, who he was separated from, and was living on cash advances, but he was able to be successful in the Alliance program none-the-less. You get out of it what you put into it, if you are determined to make it work, you will be successful. My hubby is proof of that!!!!!

I just don't understand all of the negativity with flight trying to better himself. The man did his best with Stevens and unfortunately it didn't work out for him. He has made the choice to leave and hopefully better himself.

Some of you act like he is taking money out of you pockets by leaving.

    flightwatch and Cooper09 Thank this.

Some of us have investigated JCT, and do not find them to be an improvement from stevens.

Stevens did not work for flight, some of that was out of his control, and flight has made a decision that I do hope is better for him.

Remeber too flight does not even have a year in yet.

    flightwatch and TRKRSHONEY Thank this.

I don't have a year experience yet but I was able to find a good job with a very well respected trucking company. So far this week I have made right at a months pay when I was with Stevens.

Yes, I consider myself lucky but it can be done. In fact within a 2 week period I had 2 other job offers that I would consider better that what I had.

I would think that y'all would support someone trying to better themselves even though you might not agree with the decision.

I've said my piece so ill shut up now.

JCT pays for everything except dinner. The driver pays nothing back to them.

I am interested in the truck selection process as well, but it was described much differently to me than what you all are saying. On Sunday (the 1st day of orientation,) they give you a sheet of available trucks that has the year, make, model, odometer reading, and number of previous lessors. On Monday, you are given a certain amount of time to go out and inspect the trucks, make your choice, and inform the shop of your selection. JCT has many different trucks to choose from. T660's, Pete 386's, International Prostars, and Freightliner Cascadias. From 2007's to 2012's. Also, I was told that if they catch you running towards the trucks, they will send you home immediately...no ands, ifs or buts. Stevens didn't even give me a choice of the type of truck I could drive. Kat gave me the choice of 3 different T660's and that was it. I chose the one with the lowest mileage, and it turned out to be an awesome truck.

Again, I am not going to degrade Stevens. And honestly, I am not affected if people are happy, jealous, or grumpy about my move. It was my decision to make, and I have to reap the consequences of that choice...whether good or bad. I also don't care if people think company 'a' is the next best thing since sliced bread. Good for you, and hopefully things will continue to work out for you. But you cannot continue to try to compare your experience with everybody else. That is comparing apples to oranges because everybody comes from different planes of existence.

I will continue to let you guys know how I am doing.

I hope he has made the right decision as well. Sometimes it's the company, sometimes it's the individual, sometimes it's both. Trucking is not easy or glamorous, it's a lot of hard work at times and you have to be committed to doing what is necessary. Several of us attempt to give friendly advice from our experiences. Some of that advice is heeded, other advice falls on deaf ears because it doesn't 'fit' with what the driver wants to do, but it is all good advice that if followed WILL help you be a success. That said, trucking is not for everyone. Some find out right away, others keeping looking for the right 'niche'. I went through Stevens school with a guy that had always wanted to be a trucker, he finished his 1 year committment, then found a job in a different field because he didn't want to be away from his family.
I do wish the best for you, for Flight and for all the others that leave and go to other jobs.

Well I made it to Montecello, UT. Skidded in with 4 minutes left on my 11.
Will make Boise tomorrow, then lay over a day before heading on into Salem for my monday AM delivery.
I can say this is my best week for the year. I'll end up with over 3800 miles, all without a student.
If I do this right, I'll finish with about 2 hours left on my 70, so that will get me to Troutdale to do a 34 (no hours coming back the first night and 1.75 the next)
So I'll be able to visit friends.
    Can't complain about that!
I was sure they would try and take this load away, but I managed to end each night in the middle of nowhere. Spent last night in Carlsbad, NM and I'll bet most of you have to get a map out to find Montecello.

Flight...I think I already wished you luck, but if I missed...Good Luck! Hope it all works out great.
