yeah, when he couldnt find a bus station close he found the airport back towards Chicago. He came back to the truck and made that statement looking at me like well are you going to give me a ride. Why sure, let me see.Im going to screw my ten hr break, waste my fuel, and lose my spot here at the safe haven so you can get .off my truck.Let me think for a moment.I usually make a habit of rewarding somebody for screwing me around.Thats what a smart businessman does.lol.I looked at him and shrugged my shoulders,he got the hint real quick. Then he started worrying about whether I would let him sleep in the truck while he waited for his flight. He was all apologetic about screwing me around.I said look guy it doesnt affect me in one way or another.I make one call on Monday and have a new driver in days.Im pretty capable of driving this truck without you, lol.I said your the one thats getting screwed. But not my place to make a bad decision for you, good luck with your choice.Thats about when I nodded off.

Well my First day in orientation here at JCT went quite smooth. They are a pretty laid back company. There are 9 of us including me. The staff seemed very driver oriented, and were all friendly to us. We do our truck selection at noon tomorrow. It is a 1st come 1st served process. We all go out at once to look at all of the trucks available. When we find the one that we want, we have to write down the mileage and fuel level and give it to them. We have 2 hours to do it in. The truck manager told us flat out that if he caught anybody running, or even power walking towards the trucks, he would make us stand there until everybody else chose their truck. The lease terms are 5 year notes for 2010 and newer, and 4 year notes for the 09's. Truck payments range anywhere from $560 for the 09/10 models up to $660 + side note for the brand new Cascadia's.
All the trucks are governed between 68 and 72...not to say that I will drive that fast wherever I go, but it is nice to have the extra push when it's needed....you know...so I'm not that 62mph truck in the hammer lane for 20 minutes trying to pass that other 62mph truck. Hell, a Ferrari will go 200mph, but that doesn't mean you drive it that fast everywhere...but like you said; "Some drivers just don't get it."nascarchuck, Rooster14, Jarhed1964 and 1 other person Thank this. -

My question to anyone driving a governed truck, why do you pull out to pass another truck that is running at your governed speed? Does that 1/2 mile per hour make any difference at the end of the day? And as a lease operator you just wasted $5 of fuel pushing that hard to get around that other truck.
Getting passed all day does not bother me, especially when it is by the same trucks 3 and 4 times aday. I just count the money I just put in my pocket.
Any lease operator worried about being passed is destined to fail.
Now I do like having a 66mph truck. I rarely use it as I am more efficient at 60.Rooster14 Thanks this. -
That is so true TLH, a sit back and cruise state of mind is a money making state of mind. -

I just found something that I am not too keen of at all. In my packet of paperwork to sign is an "Authorization for Disclosure of Protected Health Information." It's basically a HIPAA release form. Now I have nothing to hide, but requesting such broad information about someones private health information seems overreaching...especially when there is no reason behind it.
Here is a link to my thread about it if you want more details and info:http://www.thetruckersreport.com/truckingindustryforum/experienced-truckers-advice/174252-hipaa-question.html
Edit: I think I found out more about this form, and all is well.Last edited: Apr 1, 2012

Well i am new to this thread and the insight to Stevens is very helpful. I am starting out late to trucking (43 yrs old) but i have wanted to do OTR for over 20 years. Finally after working in the warehouse biz for so long and just making ends barely meet my wife knew it was time. She actually said to me:
'Look, you have been wanting to get into trucking for so long yet so now is the time if you want to get into it.' Been married for 18 years and she knows that i will not be home too much being over the road. With the technology we have, Webcams, email, instant messaging it is not like the old days where you dont get to see the family. yeah i know it is not the same but hey i can still get to keep in contact that way.
I already have my CDL thanks to my company and i did 2 months of regional training with them so i do have a little experience. My trainer had me driving from day 2 and i am fairly proficient in driving and backing up. Unfortunately my company screwed me out of a driving position by hiring somebody when i was training. So they decided to put me into a yard jockey position. Well that is not for me so i contacted Stevens because i was originally going to get my CDL through them. After talking to so many Stevens drivers that passed through my place of work i decided i want to drive for Stevens. Most of the drivers actually praised Stevens compared to other company drivers. Also most Stevens driver treated my talking to them with respect, always answering my questions in a good manner.
I appreciate all you drivers posting on this thread, i do not envision a smooth start but as i get more experience i will hopefully become one of those drivers that will help those that want to become a trucker like i do.
Thanks and keep posting.Dieselten77 and TRKRSHONEY Thank this. -
What was his name. I bet he was in my class.
