You really should. My hubby was supposed to be home in MI for his 1st Christmas @ Stevens (we were not 'officially' together at the time & he was going to see his daughters). DM had known since mid-Sept. He got a Canadian load that was supposed to be repowered @ Port Huron, got there, sat 2 days, was told to drive back to Detroit and continue to wait. Repower finally arrives on the 23rd.....with a loaded trailer that is going to GA and delivers the 26th. He finally got his 'Christmas' hometime in February.

Yea, I had the same prob when I first started. Missed Thnxgiving, Christmas, New Years, Valentines, my wife and my daughters birthdays. But things are better now.

Just hang in there man. Things will get better. But special dates can be a pain.

Request 2 months that your RTO be put in for the date. Then remind weekly until two weeks before and then remind everyday. Get sick, break down, catch SARS, bird flu, granny died. Hell mine died 3 times last year.... The same one!

    TRKRSHONEY and Dieselten77 Thank this.

I have been home for every important date. I have even refused a load and drove 952 miles home at my expense. One has to learn to say no and be assertive to get home. Otherwise you will get the song and dance and never get home.
I have missed some requested dates, but they were just R&R.

Set your RTO as soon as you can, remind and learn where the loads are that get you home.

When I was with Stevens the only 2 holidays that I was home for was July 4 and Christmas. I missed everyones birthday in the family, our 18th anniversary, etc.

July 4th I was between my 5 week and my finish trainer so they told me to go home for a few days.

I just had to remember that I was now in trucking and I get home when I can.
