    AndCoe,

According to nascar I must be crazy, as I am still with Stevens as a solo driver after 4 years. $30,000 to $35,000 the first year with no trucking experience is a dream. Yes emulsified made more, but he was an experienced business man and trucker. I made less than $30,000 my first year, had business experience, but not trucking. I also paid for my own school, so that I did NOT owe stevens, and could walk away at any time.

For 2011 I made $42,000, as a solo alliance driver.

People wash out, move on for many reasons. The pay is not great, and the hours are long. One has to enjoy entertaining themselves with what ever is happening where they are at. Any home pressures will magnify, as you are not there to help out.

It still amazes me the number of people who fail the drug test on the second day, full well knowing there is a drug test coming.

    TRKRSHONEY Thanks this.

Yep, your crazy! I will admit that Stevens probably has one of the niceset, newest wel maintained fleets of the mega carriers. Moving to another company would be going to a truck thats not quiye as nice but personally I have bills to pay and I have to look out for my money.

Honestly, working for Stevens really put a hurt on our finances. Im making alot more money now but I am still trying to play catch up 4 months later.

And before I get slammed, I admit that we arent the best when it comes to finances. Im sure that most of you here are in better shape. But I listen to Dave Ramsey every chance I get and we are about to start on his baby steps.

To the folks coming into Stevens, I would highly recommend that you have plenty of savings that you can use. I would highly recommend paying the school off during the first year and you will need money for expenses. Unfortunately I was like most that go through Stevens, I couldnt do that.

This brings up a few questions for the trainers on here.

    1. Do you provide meals for the students? It seems that according to everyone that I went through school with, their trainer bought most if not all of the meals for them. I got maybe 10 meals out of my 5 week trainer including a nice large steak dinner at Texas Roadhouse when he brought me back to the yard. My finish trainer bought me maybe 2 meals.

    2. Is you truck equipped with a fridge and/or microwave? The recruiters make it sound like almost all of the trainers have these in their trucks but I havent found a trainer yet that did. I went on the truck thinking that I would be saving money by eating sandwiches, etc but was dead wrong!

    3. Do you buy your students a "graduation gift" when they are done on your truck? I heard several students getting a new GPS, CB, etc.

One fellow classmate said that when he got on the trainers truck, the trainer told him that he since he was a trainee and probably broke, that all of the meals were paid for by the trainer and he handed him a $100 bill for expenses. Wowser!

Do you trainers do anything extra for your trainees or are they just a guest on your truck?

Yup, emulsification is the mixing of water and oil.
When I was in undergrad school, I worked my way thru by working in printing. Lithography (common offset printing) is a process of emulsification.

I try and help them as I can. Often I can get a route thru their hometown and will schedule a one night layover there. That always makes them happy.

I often wondered about your username. I spent 20 years repairing Goss Headliner/Colorliner offset presses in the pressroom one of the major newspapers. Newspapers started to become a thing of the past so I took a buy out and here I am.

Wish more trainers cared for the students. Too many just use them for miles although I know that Stevens is trying to weed those guys out.

On my evaluation of my 5 week trainer I nailed him on a few things. I know that he had 1 student after me then he was done. He has since left Stevens. Wonder if other students nailed him as well...

Yes I have been told I am crazy many times. Nascar a man does what is best for his current situation. I thank you for being honest with your comments. After training I was deep in the hole too. But I am single, and worked through the lean times. I had two trainers, first was kraft dedicated from ft worth to chicago and back. Did that for 2 weeks and spent both weekends at the days inn in mesquite. Second trainer, helped him swith to a new pete, and he promissed a steak dinner. I got a steak dinner at the golden corral in amarillo where his girl friend worked and then spent 2 days at the TA babysitting the truck and load while he played. And we were late to cheshire too. He also leaves his students parked at the home depot on the south side of atlanta while he goes home. I ran into him about 6 months ago and he is still training and according to his student still parking at the home depot. I let stevens know what he did with me, but since he is still training I question if they pay much attention to the students comments. Was his training good? No we had to run non stop when he was not playing, with false log books.

Unfortunately, the MAIN reason so many don't make it, is that they try to 'hide' something in their background that disqualifies them (this includes 'dirty' drug screens). After that comes other med issues and just not being able to hack it, which includes family problems.

Funny how the guys that come up 'dirty' on their drug screen or are disqualified due to previous DUI/DWI issues try to blame Stevens.
