Apparently Stevens is going back to 8's.
These are all 8 speed.
the thinking is this is a training company and students seem to settle in faster with the 8's.
Also, since the 8 is really a 13 (the split gears are not active on the trucks), it brings higher resale value to future users.
As a matter of fact, if you buy your truck from Stevens, they upgrade the tranny to the 13 as part of the sale.
I wish they allowed that for drivers with two or more years of experience here, but it's not to be....at least for now.

Hey Shifty, sounds like the proverbial ex-pilot always looking to the sky when he hears the sounds of planes overhead. You know, there is a Dollar General DC in Fontain now. I'm not sure who got that contract but I think it is Sneider. If they have DG stores in your area now then that might be a possibility. Home every weekend for sure. I bought a truck from Werner and will take delivery on the 25th which will give me more independence. When It's paid for then I plan on going into flatbed. For now I'll stay with the DG account out of Ardmore. Best of luck to ya.
Shiftylots Thanks this. -
Shifty,
Are you on good terms with your former DM?
Maybe you can get him/her to send you an email stating that you and he agreed for you to leave the truck at the dealer.
Then explain to the prospective employer that you didn't understand this was considered abandonment.
Gives credibility to your claim and probably get you off the hook.
To most trucking companies, abandonment means you just left the truck somewhere and walked away without regards to it's safety.
This would paint a different picture.
Good luck.
And yea...it gets in your blood.
Ain't no cure, 'cept runnin' the asphalt.Shiftylots and TRKRSHONEY Thank this. -
I climbed out of the truck for a few years, drove me nuts. I would drive to the truck stop across town for a cup of coffee, driving past many places that sell coffee to get there.

After 9 months, I'm out of hours for the very first time and forced to do a reset after 3500 miles. Only 12 minutes of drive time available for today, lmao!
Averaged 8.8mpg for the week via Qualcomm too. Best I've ever done and sure the Lease & O/O LOVE pulling the new trailers with the skirts! -
Well sitting at home tonight, deliver in the morning then off to renew my license. Actually got the nabisco load to casper again.... the world must be coming to an end.. Now I need to review the Hazmat section, as I have had so few Hazmat loads, that I doubt I could pass the test cold turkey.
And the TSA says I have been a good boy. -
Load from California to Florida for home time??? Crossing fingers, lol...
-
And i gotta say, after my visit to the yard last week, I'm impressed with the speed of the work from the shop. I only hope that the operations staff will be getting the same revamp that the shop got...
-
Operations is down two people and we are now short two DM's....possibly three.
Julie, in HR, is recruiting madly to fill the positions.
Any takers?
Meanwhile, sitting in the metropolis of iola, KS.
0600 drop in Des Moines, so I'll roll around 2300 tonight. -
I would probably be able to help the DM department if the money was right and they would relocate me and my family on thier costs. I've been a dispatcher for aprox. 5 years now and I oversee 120 drivers. Different industry but still has to be close to the same. The money would have to be real good to stop me from going over the road though. I was born with trucking in my blood and it will never go away...LOL
