Me? I got about 8 months experience at Stevens then I left for a job that pays $.45 a mile plus various pay on the loads. Home most nights, etc. One weeks pay now is just about a months pay at Stevens.

But to answer your question, the .26 is low but I knew that it would be before I went in. During my research I felt that Stevens has what is probably the most respected training program out there so I thought that would offset the low pay.

I just didnt realize that I would be getting paychecks that were less that $50.

I have 32 students grad from my truck, 27 are still with Stevens, all but 5 went Alliance, 6 have bought their own trucks and many of them train now also. NONE of them have ever consistently made checks under $50. If you can't budget and do not set aside monies for the famine season and home time, then that's another story that begins and ends with your fault.
personally, I make a lot of money here. There are not many trucking jobs where a man can take home 7-9grand in 3 weeks and go home for 10 days.
everyone has their own experience and some stick out the BS to reap the rewards. If you want the candy, you gotta lay the price. I started at the bottom where everyone else has.

Can you show me where I have ever said that the checks were CONSISTENTLY under $50?

Without going back and looking at my pay stubs, I would guess that my average was about $400 a week but that is still way too low for working the amount of hours and being away from home for 8-12 weeks at a time.

I could work for WalMart and make that kind of money with much more time off.

Once again you are one of the handful of guys in here that claim to make good money and enjoy working for Stevens. Good for you. Most dont make it and move on to other jobs that pay better and have better benefits...

Average of 2000-2500 miles a week to start out of training going solo would give you $520-650 a week (.26c) There are deductions but nothing to put you down in the $50 a week range. Home time is every 5-6 weeks depending on the home location. Nascar can be a little negative at times. :biggrin_25523:

If telling the truth is being negative, then yes, I can be negative at times.

Oh come one Nascar. Simmer down!
Stevens wasn't right for you. We all understand that.
I, for one, am glad you found a gig that's good.
You're right. Most that join Stevens will move on. But not because they're abused or cheated. Because they take the training and experience they aquired at Stevens and found another company that will pay them for it.
But that's the name of the game. Stevens is a TRAINING company. That's their mission. To take a know nothing starter with (or without) a CDL and equip him/her to be a safe, qualified and consciencious driver.
Then we all move onto the next level. Some of us find that at Stevens, most find it elsewhere.
But ALL that move on after training, take the best quality skills available with them. Yourself included.
You could not be in that great job had you not used your skills aquired at Stevens. You admit it yourself.
So lighten up. I'll buy the coffee.

So basically if you don't want to struggle you pretty much have to go alliance. Can you get a decent paycheck if you do company driver. I start orientation next month just trying to get a heads up. I really want to start off as company for like a year and then do alliance. I'm not gonna have any deductions besides the basic taxes cause I already have my cdl. I went to a cdl school and got it

    Thanks

    Oh, Im not worked up...

I dont know that I have ever said that drivers were abused and/or cheated. I think that you will find that my complaint was the pay, or lack of it. I feel that you get plenty of miles, its just that they nickle and dime students to death.

I agree with you in that I wouldnt be in my current job if it hadnt been for Stevens. Stevens offers great schooling and training. I have said that many times.

And I believe that you will notice that I normally say that I'm not trying to be negative when I make the posts concerning the downside of Stevens. I just want folks coming in to know what COULD happen. I know many out of my class that did worse than I did but I try not to mention them.

And thanks for the offer but I cant stand coffee. But I'll let you buy me a glass of sweet tea!

Like I have said many times before, research Alliance. Its not for everyone and many loose the tails big time but by the same token there are some that make good money with Alliance.

My suggestion would be to learn trucking before you even consider Alliance.

I hope this didnt come across as negative! :D
