Nice point, but the only parts of canada Stevens goes to are just across the border in Quebec. French signs, French language, not for this guy.
Now if I could run the Canadian rockies....I would be happy

Hello everyone from the fun filled Dallas yard. Yep I am here in a Friday night
I have the CSA2010 class and then I am clear, but to get the APU fixed, will have to wait until Monday, at the thermo king dealer. Needs a new Radiator, seam is split.
It was an interesting day on the yard though, yesterday after getting my load assignment, I get a QC message telling me after I pick the load up, and make the first drop in Dallas, bring it to the yard. This is what i wanted, as I was approaching the 90 day safety hold. Go pick up at 1am, in austin, make my 11 am appointment at versacold, right behind the yard, 1 pallet of stuff, and then over to the yard.
Called road rescue after being loaded, as the trailer was not holding -10. told them I would be on the yard about noon, and was told to keep an eye on it, and get it fixed on the yard. Will do.
My DM asks me who authorized me to bring the load to the yard, I can just not bring it to the yard. I told her the exact time of the message. Got to the dispatch window to turn in my load paperwork, and get a rashinging of c r a p from him to telling me I can not just come to the yard. I told him look at my screen I was told to on the QC, and that is a contract between me and the company. He finally finds the message, and then says, next time you have to call and get it approved. I told him I want to see that in writing. He tells me I am getting an attitude, and he can get ugly.... I say it is not my fault you people do not communicate with each other, and walk away.
Find out later That Jim Pruwit had sent the message to bring it to the yard. Nobody argues with Jim. Then OS&D calls, complaining about the trailer being at +10 degrees when I brought it to the yard. Informed them that is what I was told to do. Again, nobody communicating.
Compliance was nice, I had my usual form and manner errors, I keep forgetting to write my miles in. Will have to work on that. I had a 11 and 14 hour violation, cut a break short by 15 minutes, but she let me slide as it is my only violation in the last year. They are being picky about time compression, and average speed. I had a couple, that she questioned, one was recent enough I could remember the trip. i10 across arizona, New Mexico and Texas....no much slowing down or stopping out there.
So I will be here all weekend...Get a bobtail pass on monday to take the truck to thermo king, and get the APU radiator replaced. I like it that way, as all my stuff is on the truck, and I hate it when they take it off site. I like to keep track of my belongings, and electronics. I do have a lot of toys.Fyr Thanks this. -

Hey T, you still here at the yard???
Track me down in the lounge and I'll buy you a cup of coffee or a soda...
It looks like I'm stuck here with my trainer till at least sunday...Fyr Thanks this. -
You may be mortified by this, but one of Stevens VP's is now aware of what happened to you and I promise you it WILL BE REVIEWED. You were of course entirely in the right and your story illustrates a problem I've been constantly bringing up to the various people in charge. It was great to know that someone else saw the same kind of thing. I'm willing to bet you'll see a change of culture at the yard and very soon.
As I've said, stevens has delivered most of what it has promised to me. I'm successful here as an alliance driver, but sometimes there are stories and examples that can move the company to become a better one.
I'll let you know what happens nextFyr Thanks this. -
Well I am done with phase 1 of my training. I was dropped off by my trainer about 10 miles from home, and now I am enjoying the company of my family. It's funny that it took so long to get my last three requirements( 2 mountains and NW) and I did them all in less than 5 hours. I will be heading back to the yard next week OR2 on the 10th. keep the rubber to the road and be safe all.
Fyr Thanks this. -
Congrats Formygirlz...
I need NW, 2 Mtns (could have had them both last week but was 500lbs to light), and miles...Wondering how long it will take...
-
Well it can take as little as 5 hours if the plan is right...lol. A quick hint, Las Vegas, NV for some reason is considered the NW. If you hit Vegas and head south down the 15 there is Mountain Pass which you flip to get credit and Cajon down by L.A. My advise is be proactive in letting anyone who will listen know what you need or you may be on that truck for longer than 5 weeks like me. That last magic run was almost repowered away from us because the dispatcher told my trainer the load he was giving us would fulfill the requirements also. When the guy showed up we found out he was carrying 7 pallets with 14,000. I called my counselor and she lost it. 10 minutes later the QC cancels repower and my magic run was on.
Fyr Thanks this. -
I would like to see Stevens make some changes, on communications, and maintenance. I voice my opinion, had a good talk yesterday afternoon, and enjoying some down time until monday.Fyr Thanks this. -

Fyr Thanks this.
