Being out long is not a problem for me I'm use to it. I did 8 years in the Navy and when your attached to the boat your gone away from your family for 6 months straight and you do that every year and a half so that part is not a problem.
Now the reason why I sound so concerned is that if your not obligalted to stay out 2 months or whatever longer then why do it.
I got my cdl from a regular school so all the instructors and trainers have did the OTR and they all said that every major carrier that you do OTR with your going have to do at least a month out before you get to come home. They also said that if you choose to stay out longer its your choice they are not going to stop you cause that means that's more money for the company.
I also talk to other students that was in my class that went on to other major companies and they say the same thing with their company that they don't make them stay out past a month so I was just wondering is Stevens the only company that make you stay out past a month.

I only took home time a couple of times in my time with Stevens, mainly because I couldnt afford the time off. When I would roll through town I would try to meet my wife and son at a restaurant or even swing buy the house for a couple of hours. That made it nice.
If you are lucky as I was, you may be able to do 8 months with Stevens then find a local job where you are home most nights. I average 2-3 nights a week out, if that.
Stevens expects you to stay out 4-6 week at a time. The other companies may be different so check with them. -
Ok thanks for that info. Im still going to go with stevens, I start orientation next month cause I want the good training that they provide and also the nice trucks they have.
I know alot of people stay out longer for the extra money and can't really afford to take the time off so they let you stay out long as you want.
I was just talking for the few people who don't mind coming home three to four days a month, but hey if thats there requirement then Im with it.
I guess I have to understand that recruiters is not going to tell you the full truth, I should know that cause I was a recruiter in the Navy and I sometimes not told the whole truth.
But the difference is when you get out there and see that's not what was told to you then that's why people quit and go to other companies but Im not going to quit because I get home in 5 weeks instead of 4. That's nothing.
I love driving trucks and I love traveling to see the country so Im in it to win it.... -
Burgers, still have not tried the 5 guys..
good evening from the official middle of nowhere, at least according to the billboards... Oneill NE...
Swung by the house this morning, to empty the truck out even more, on my way to target... and this route is actually shorter than running I80, and since there was very very light traffic and no construction, faster. Have a 1500 appt time, and am only 330 miles away... so no problem... wonder how long the unload will be this time?
US 20 a wonderfully boring ride on this hot sunday afternoon.TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -

First day of driver trainer training down and in the books. Im soooo #### sore. And Im sunburnt on my face, neck, arms and the top of my head
-
Now you know why it's so important to wear a hat. There isn't much that hurts more than a sunburned noggin....unless it's a dented sunburned noggin!
At least you get today to recover. Back on the hill tonight and you'll be dragging your tail by 10pm. Drink lot's of fluids!
And keep your eye out for your first student candidate.Corporal_Clegg Thanks this. -
