I was constantly bumping "overspeed" and they never once said a word. I do remember that the maximum speed I reached was 67. I always had it hammer down which put me at overspeed at 62mph. Sure glad that Im in a 69 mph truck now!

As far as the finish trainer, what I did was sucked it up while in the 2 trainers trucks and just did what they said while I was in the trucks. I did have a hard time on the finish trainers truck because I had spent 5 weeks learning from one guy and now the finish trainer does thing completely different.

One example that comes to mind is my first trainer taught me to swing really wide on right turns so that I dont curb the trailer tires and I block traffic to complete the maneuver without hitting a car. Finish trainer threw a fit and wanted me close to the curb so that no cars would sneak in on my right side. I understand both trainers reasoning. Now I tend to stay somewhat close to the curbs on right hand turns because that makes more sense to me. In my area of trucking most places that I deliver are tight turns narrowly missing curbs, ditches and brand new cars (Im talking cars with less than 10 miles so I assume they meet TTR definition of new).

I did things the way my finish trainer wanted me to even if it differed from the other trainer. I would mention why I was doing it the "wrong" way though. Once out on my own I had two different perspectives and I took whichever felt right and did it that way.

Knock on wood I have a perfect CSA score and no accident or incidents so my training must had been pretty good.

Actually his name is Carl but I dont remember excatly what his nickname is. If its not Sgt Major its something pretty #### close to that. Its only been a year and a half since I last saw him so yes, I have slept since then.

One thing that I remember him saying is they can pull up google maps at any time and see exactly where you are.

Yes, I guess they could get your GPS coordinates then enter into Google maps but he implies that they can follow you real time.

Don't think it's GoogleMaps, but they do have a way of pinpointing where you are within approximately one mile, I've seen it done!!

Ask a car dealer, once that car leaves the lot for more than a test drive, it is NO longer new, can not be sold as new. The dealer demo's which the salesmen drive, can not be sold as new. That is NOT TTR's definition of new, but the legal definition of new.

Other peoples perspective is always good, but may not work for you.

Actually... I dont know about other states, but in Texas it is my understanding that a car can be sold as new as long as it hasnt been titled before.

I do know that if a car is damaged in transit and goes to the body shop, it is not sold as new.

Delaware and New Jersey are the same I believe. I have bought new cars in bith states, all had beteew 14 and 30 miles on them. Some of those miles were from the test drive I did in them, but not all. They were sold as new.

There is a function where we can pull up your truck on google maps and it pinpoints within 50 feet where you are sitting (at the time we keyed the command key). There is a second function where we can bring up your route from where you presently sit. We use both, depending on what the needs are. Often a driver will call for a new optistop and not know where he is. We'll bring up the command and look to see where his routing goes so we can pick a station along the way.
I'll often use the function to spot where two trucks sit when there are multiple truck stops at the same exit so I can 'guide' the drivers to the other guy. Remember, I work nights, I don't like to call and ask just to wake someone up.
No one 'follows' you to spy. We just don't have time.

Yes, Sgt Major is Carl. I understand his logic...he says it right, but most don't hear him. Remember, he teaches O2 drivers. Still have their head swimming with all kinds of stuff. He'll say "As long as your steers are not more than 12,000, your drives and tandems 34,000, your gross is 80,000 or less, and your tandems not beyond the 5th hole, you're legal in all states."
He's right. But too many hear, "you can't be beyond the 5th hole, or over 12,000, etc. etc."
Once a driver gets a bit more comfortable and reads his Motor Carrier Atlas, he'll see which states allow you over 12,000, or in holes further than the #5 slot. But for new drivers, he doesn't want them getting in trouble, so it's an all inclusive instruction.
I have sat in Carls class several times. I hear what he says, but new drivers hear what he doesn't say (often).
Just the way of training new drivers.
