Driving a mile down the street is NOT breaking the law. Get over yourself, and Randy not putting it in writing. Or learn to ask, and NOT assume when at a new receiver. Amazing how most will work with you, not all.
And the funny thing is, you break the letter of the law every day, as you do not log exactly how long your post trip inspection takes, as stevens requires you to log a minimum of 30 minutes. Do you put yourself on the drive line, before you pull out of the truck stop, or do you let the computer do it for you, when you exceed 20 miles per hour, or 2 miles? That is breaking the law, as you are driving, when not on the drive line. Do you move yourself to the drive line when backing into the dock?, on duty while standing in line to check in, then standing in line to check out... do you log the time spent on a produce dock as on duty? the list is quite long...

You asked after you where unloaded, and they had their product, and did not need you anymore. The key is to ask before you even bump the dock. Then they can decide just how much they want their product. All part of learning.
Rent a cops, showing his authority... got to love them.
Communication at stevens has always been their weakest link.
So after threatening you to pay for the tow, stevens still called a tow truck? Now who gets to pay that bill?TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
Lack of communication at stevens brings many problems that could be solved easily, but that would take a proactive management style, and stevens is totally reactive. Stevens has space rented in many major cities to drop trailers, they just keep it a secret, except for the local drivers.
And yes VegasFan was doing what is preached... But relying on a desk jockey to solve your problems, after the fact, will NOT have a good outcome.
At times I refused to make a delivery that would violate my 14, as I knew from past experience that I would be there more than 2 hours, but less than 8 hours, and they will not let you stay for any reason. Dominics in chicago.VegasfanNJ and TRKRSHONEY Thank this. -
Plea everything u suggest I do I did. I asked the guard before I got unloaded. Told Stevens way in adVance there was going to be an issue.
But since u Love Stevens so much how come u left? Or is that someone else. -
The attorney told me the court had no record.of the ticket, the court date was Wed the 17th... got an email from the attorney that they would file a motion to dismiss bases on non prosecution, so I thought everything was looking good... but as I happen to be home for the weekend I got a notice from the court in Jersey City dated 10/16 stating they were rescheduling it for 12/19... so I gueess I am not off the hook quite yet.
The attorney told me originally though he thought it could be pled to either obstructing traffic, which is a fine but no points, or a failure to report an accident which is a fine with two points...TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
If you have NO time left on your 11 or 14, how is driving a mile down the road NOT breaking the law?
All of you Stevens guys preach "get it in writing" but now you are being a bit of an ### to VegasFan because he wanted it in writing as yall always say to do. I guess that yall are just like Stevens. The rule only applies to the current circumstance. -
Moving the truck less than 2 miles at 20 miles or less an hour is a also breaking the letter of the law, but is allowed. Same applies to moving a short distance to get off of private property. VegasFan did what he could, from the information he was given. But again, depending on a desk jockey to fix a problem for you will end in a poor outcome.
I am pointing out, that all people bend and break the law every day... and policies have been written that are acceptable breaking of the law. Selectively picking just the 11/14/70 law to follow to the minute is BS.TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
I don't love stevens, and yes I left after 4 1/2 years, and two lease completion bonus checks. Biggest reason to leave, is their reactive management style. I am a proactive person, and depend upon myself, and not a desk jockey to make decisions. Stevens will never be proactive, and I could not continue to work in that environment.
and your situation is a great example of the lack of management and lack of communication at stevens. Kroger in Houston is a KNOWN problem receiver, but Stevens will do NOTHING to upset a customer. Competition is just too cut throat in the general freight business.
The guard, the rent a cop has no authority, as he/she is not even an employee of Kroger. You have to ask the receiving clerk, or the dock supervisor to resolve a problem.TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
Sitting in Denver have a flight back to Dallas tonight so I can start or2 on Monday. Yay.
TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
100,582 miles for my first full year with Stevens. I don't think its too bad considering that I've taken 5-7 days off almost every 5-6 weeks...
My first solo dispatch date was 10-27-11 so technically I can add another week onto that number too...TRKRSHONEY, TLeaHeart and FozzyBear Thank this.
