The way the pet policy was explained to me is that it was in insurance issue. If a pet "contaminated" the produce Stevens was on the hook for it.

The no pet policy makes sense considering how much foodstuffs/produce they move. Sure. But the papers I was sent when I first contacted Stevens had right on it, $500 deposit for pets on your truck for company drivers and you could bring your pet on your truck as soon as you were assigned one. There was also a paragraph saying the hotel allowed pets in your room for your schooling period, but while you were out on the road for the two OTR training periods you would have to find housing for your pet until you came back and got your own truck.
So that's why I said on the papers on the last day where you grade your experience with the training that the materials got a grade of D from me, and I commented that their paperwork was outdated quite often, contained numerous spelling errors and needed upgrading and updating.
I also mentioned that having secret qualifications was legal, but far from ethical.

Yes it does show how many different folks have power over you. And the departments at Stevens are truly independent of each other. I think I filled out the same papers four separate times. The criminal record sheet, application, policy acknowledgment, all that. Instead of running your first ones through a copy machine they have you spend time filling them all out again.:biggrin_25523:

Yes Smokr, it does open ome's eyes. I just hope they don't charge for the extended stay in the hotel later.

Are they paying for your food or is that just for orientation?

They didn't pay for any food for schooling time, but because we spent long days this week, 7am to 10pm, we got a ticket for lunch and another for dinner for a sandwich and a soda from the gut wagon for Monday, Tues and Wednesday. Then for Christmas day we got a $15 gift card for Golden Corral where it covered the holiday buffet and a drink. Then there is corn flakes or raisin bran cereal and milk with coffee or orange drink every morning at the hotel in the room where you wait for the van ride to the school. That breakfast is every school day.
As for me staying until Monday instead of only Saturday, I did ask right away when she said they would wait until Monday for me to get paperwork from back home and Stevens arranged for the hotel room for until then, and I'm guessing it will show up on my loan.

I am willing to bet the cost will be put back on you. I would pay close attention. Do you know if they try to put you with a trainer that lives in the same state as you?

First of all, jaking does work upshifting and downshifting, however, it's stupid to do it and theres a trick to it.

If you hit the clutch the jake is disabled temporarily. You can double clutch up or down with the jake turned on.

I wouldn't say the jake is computer controlled because it doesnt have to be. It's just hooked up to a series of switches on the pedals. However, on the newest trucks, EVERYTHING is computer controlled, right down to the stinkin AC knobs, including the fan.

Smokr, Don't let this get you down, I took a look at Stevens and was leaning that direction also. I read a lot of threads posted here and decided to take a class a local college has here and get my CDL so I wouldn't have to start out in debt. I have kept track of your comments here and hate it for you. I admire you for standing by your mom's side:biggrin_25514:. Best of Luck to you, Merry Christmas and I wish you a Very Happy New Year:biggrin_255:.

It probably will be. I won't mind a lot if it is, afterall, like I said, I have my CDL now and a pretty darned good bit of training.
They say they don't usually care about where the trainer is from as there isn't any reason for the trainer to be from anywhere near where you are from as you will be on the truck for a month without time off anyway. The trainer might take time off, but if he does Stevens puts you up in a hotel on them for those days anyway.
And thanks Screenman, I hope you have a good training experience and a good future driving as well as a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year too.
