I know it's hard to believe, but that's just not the case. Let me explain how a truck is picked to make a repower.
First we identify the route and needs. Does it need a team to make OTD? Can a training team or a trainee-trainee team work?
We identify a city approximately where the repower would work best, then bring up a list of ALL trucks that will pass that point with their current load.
If we are looking for a team, we will search only those trucks. If a solo will do, we'll search those as well. We bring up each truck and look at the profile. Some of these numbers we already know. Certain trucks won't go to NYC or won't run at night. So we bypass those.
Then we begin the process of calling each truck to ask.
Depending on the load, we may choose to bypass a Grad fleet truck as they often are slower, less dependable or on loads that would won't work. It doesn't mean anything (at least to me) if the truck is Alliance or Company.
If I see a truck from someone I know, I may ask them first.
Once we get a truck to agree, we put the repower together.
The trick about all this is HOW you are asked to repower a load. Some persons will hide pertinent facts. (multiple drops, long delivery times). I try and give all the facts. I often put all the details on the QC when I don't reach the driver. (3drops, first one at 0930 tomorrow in NJ, last one on sunday at 0600 in Boston). I also try and give the miles rundown. (you'll lose 450 miles and get back 390, but you'll empty a day early).
I know most others don't give this detail, but I figure it's important for a driver to know.
If it's a lousy swap, I'll leave a phone message to that effect: you'll give up 550 miles for 200, but I'm trying to get this driver home for hometime. If you can help, please call".
No where are we trying to 'take care' of Alliance, Trainers, Buddies or others. We don't have time. We usually have a list a mile long of those trucks that NEED repowers for OTD, so chasing those that just want them for various reasons usually doesn't happen.
I do search the repower board for those wanting repowers to see if one can do the other and serve both needs, but that doesn't happen very often.
So be of good cheer! We abuse everyone equally!

Good luck TruckersHoney!
I'm headed to Ogden with a window of 0800 to 1600 tomorrow. My 70 is squeezing me so tight I most likely will not make it, or if I do I will not have any hours left to get to a safe haven. I contacted my Dm and was told it's a drop so just get it there safely and legally. I made it to Big Springs, NA today and when I got done with my PTI I have 27 minutes left on my 70 and get 9:54 back at midnight. I have 588 and a fuel stop between me and the final. I get 10:15 back tomorrow at midnight, so I figured I'll get close tomorrow and roll it on in there Sunday.TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
Don't worry Fozzy. That's one account that allows us to be late without penalty.
