Survived my trip to chicago. albeit a bit nerve racking with a 13'7 trailer and much of the EL not posted. However a word of warning to those that have never been to Chicago to the meat market area. When you roll in there are guys hanging around the different meat distributors that will hop on the side step of your truck and tell you that you missed your receiving dock area, take you around the block "guiding" you. they act as though they are employees or lumpers of the meat distributors hell they even stop traffic so you can back into your door THEY ARE NOT EMPLYEES OF THE MEAT COMPANY , however they will proceed to charge you a minimum of 40 bucks for the guide service and they got a little scam going on with the meat receivers that the receiver hands them your bills. Guess whats next. LOL no pay for guide service no bills. Yet another expensive lesson learned. Talked to another driver and apparently this goes on at Hunts point too. I got off easy only 60 bucks. Poor SOB next to me got arsch raped for 110. At any rate, the I 55 truck stop outside Chicago is wonderful, has a washout bay, a mom and pop restaurant with great food and the parking is only 10 bucks a day to put you as close as possible to Chi town. Still have not neutralized the skunk oil off my truck. Hopefully I can get sent through Utah or some place with lotsa treatment on the road to dry that crap up and wash it off my truck. For now I am headed to temple. Good ol shipper in champaign burned my clock last night 730 appointment got the call at 0130 that they were done loading me come get paperwork. Only needed 45 minutes so I could do a split so I dragged my butt gettin out of my SB to go get my paperwork cuz I knew what the answer to can I stay a few minutes would be. More than one way to skin a cat and stay in the good graces of compliance.

So, they don't work for the company you are delivering to and won't give you the bills unless you pay w/e they feel like they can pinch out of you.
Yea I hope that happens to me.
I went to Hunts Point a month ago, The lumper fee was 300 bucks but I got a receipt and I didn't get scammed. However I do remember the guide asking me if I had any extra T-Checks. -
I've never been to the Chicago meat market, bit have been to Hunts point a couple of times... never had any guides.
TRKRSHONEY and nascarchuck Thank this. -
Saw the new show "Big Rig Bounty Hunters" last nite on the History Channel. Ever so often you would see a Stevens truck either in the background or driving by. Now the show is ridiculous, but good for a few laughs.
Some of the idiot's they have could be failed Stevens drivers. -
TRKRSHONEY Thanks this.

OK, if this works out the way they are telling me, this may not be a bad load after all. Deliver tomorrow in Ohio, Monday in AZ and Tue in CA... so add in the 600 miles deadhead and that is OK miles and mostly driving.
Of course until I see it on the QC I am skeptical.TRKRSHONEY Thanks this. -
