After I replied to your other post, I looked on the TX DMV site, and apparently now in order to get your CDL in TX, you must first have a TX driver license. In order to get the TX driver license, you must show proof of residency with 2 documents, one of which must prove residency of greater than 30 days.

What a crazy load... Started with a deadhead from MI to NC. 6 miles from shipper I am told to go to a truck stop. 24 hrs later I pick up the load. 8 stops... that's right 8... three in the OH, three in AZ and two in CA. Total weight... 1,850. That's all 8 stops combined. 1500 of that is coming off in OH. I may as well be dead heading across the country.

I flew right by the other trucks on Fancy Gap and through WV... can't wait to see how I blow their doors off out west LOL.

If you are not a TX resident you won't go to TX for your initial training. They use a contract school near Denver, and until recently another near St. Louis to get you your CDL. I was scheduled to go to St. Louis but was switched to Denver, and there are rumors that Stevens has stopped doing business with the St Louis school. As it turns out I'm leaning towards Prime, so the whole ST. Louis vs Denver thing may be moot for me.

You might as well just drop the trailer in OH, load what's left in the sleeper and bobtail the rest of the way :biggrin_25523:

Some days I just don't know. I got a load out of Yuma, produce, load assignment didn't have an appt. During my produce talk I was told there wasn't an appointment, if I needed one when I got here I should call and make it myself rather than wait for the office. But go ahead and get your DH done today. Well, by the time I got on the road it was already getting late in the day so I ran out to Palm Springs and shut down. Rolled in here this morning and when I went to check in I was told my appointment is at 4:00 this afternoon. If I had known that I could have waited to start my clock until a bit later. Ah well, I'll get loaded and see what is up. Last thing I want to do is catch the storm on my way to Iowa.

Generally speaking, it's always best to get your deadhead out of the way early. If you aren't loaded until 1800, you will have a 10 in place and be ready to roll. Being able to run that first evening often puts you ahead and keeps you off the repower radar. This is especially important if you're running produce, since it gives you an edge in escaping the great tractor beam that can suck you right back into California's veggie patch!
The first night's running can get you to Van Horn TX. It's a decent repower point, but just remote enough that you can't be grabbed by the nefarious repower trogdelites! (or maybe it's the repower siths...can't keep my evil apprentices straight!)

Except my 14 wouldn't let me complete it, and I hate running into somewhere late not knowing if I will be able to find a parking spot. If I come back here I now know there is a big dirt lot down the street where I could have parked, if I could have made it here.

The storm is rolling through Iowa now, I doubt a Stevens truck could catch it.
