Right now all I have is my desktop, so don't think I'll be lugging it around, but looking to get a cheap laptop ASAP, so soon as I do I'll post my experiance , the good, bad, and ugly. I use to drive so the life style isn't going to be a shock to me, I actually like running hard and staying out. When I drove for Digby they give use basiclly the same "time off" set up Stevens does 1 day off for every 7 days out. I use to stay out 6-8 weeks build up a week off go home and by the second day was bored and had to get back out there. If you don't have a family at home its a lot easier and cheaper. Its basiclly like supporting two households if your trying to live on the road and also support a home life. Money gets thin, well at least thats the way I seen it before and from what I've seen posted on the forums it aint any differnt now days.

Thank you very much, that information was very helpful. -
After taking time at home I am back on the road. As I figured would happen, I was given a load of OJ. I am headed back to Texas with a delivery on Tuesday in San Antonio. Whenever coming out of Tropicana in Bradenton, ALWAYS scale the load. Stevens will send you in there light on fuel (usually at a 1/4 or less) because they know the load is going to be heavy. This equates to several fuel stops along the way to keep the weight on the truck down. On the bills Tropicana only accounts for the weight of the juice and not the weight of the pallets or the packaging. My bills are for 42k but it is actually around 44k including the pallets.
When I picked up the trailer I did my usual pre-trip inspection on it. The previous driver was kind enough to leave the trailer there with a tire that was so worn out the wires were exposed. I called road rescue and took it to the TA in Tampa to have the tire replaced. I get 90 gallons of fuel and put the trailer in the tire bay. Two hours later the tire is repaired.
After fueling and having the tire repaired I scaled the load. This was with the tandems in the 2nd hole as this was the way it was loaded at Tropicana. The first weigh showed me that I was way over weight on my tandems. (steers: 12060, drives: 31880: tandems: 35460). I moved the tandems back to the sixth hole and that evened out the load. (steers: 12120: drives: 33540, tandems: 33760). I am grossed out at 79420 so this load is quite heavy.JimTheHut Thanks this. -

Howdy all. Nice to see the 'disagreement' is cooled off. Also nice to see more noobs incoming...welcome and best of luck. And welcome back to the road cuda.
As far as average length of haul...pfft. I'd say, as others have, that as long as you do the job, you'll keep moving, ending up with something over 2,500 miles a week for the most part.
I finally got off the yard after NINE DAYS. You read that right. I turned in my Pete as it was sold, and got a T2K. It was due for a level1, alignment and quite a few repairs under the hood. I got moved in Wednesday night I think it was, and by Friday the major and minor repairs were done, but not the level1 or the alignments. On Monday, I went to complain, and on Tuesday my DM said he had got the truck cleared and I could get a trailer and get dispatched. The garage passed on the level1 and the alignments for some reason. The truck barely pulls right, but otherwise seems fine now after more than 1,500 miles.
My first load was 700 miles, then got a meat load from Tulsa to Connecticut with two drops for about 1,800 miles, due Monday and Tuesday. That would be just about 2,200 miles for the week.
I'm spending tonight at the TA in Columbia NJ, about 400 miles from first delivery Monday 4am. So I'll be down until late Sunday night, about 24 hours. Not the best run, but at least the meat load (Tyson) was ready when I arrived!!! No kidding!
It was overgross when I got it though, and they removed a pallet, leaving me at 79,120, and a bear to balance out. -
Welcome back to the road after the abyss we all have to deal with, (dallas Yard).
I keep missing you by about a day Smokr, making my delivery in New Hampshire this am, after stopping at the TA in columbia yesterday.
Depending on where you will be delivering in conn, they may have truck staging parking so you can arrive early...and if you are deliverying to BJ's I suggest you arrive as early as possible, as everyones appointment is 4am, and it is first come first serve, by when you check in at the window.
Now that you have been "down graded", have fun with the KW
Truckers will always disagree about something... if we were not so independent, we would not be good truckers. -
I am a company driver for Maverick (as you know). They let us decide when and where to fuel.
I can haul 51,000 lbs on a half tank of fuel and 50,000 on a full tank of fuel.
The spread axles on or skateboards allow us to do that.
It was good talking to you the other day! Keep Safe! -
Boy, I'll tell you...this trip has been a joy (read sarcasm!)
Left the shipper in Chelsea friday early afternoon and got stuck in the traffic jam from hell. I was nearly to the PA line on I-78 before it finally let up.
Then yesterday, got trapped in more of the same down 95 from Baltimore to Richmond. Where the hell are all these people going?
then suddenly...it just opens up! no extra lanes, no off ramps...just poof!
Down in Atlanta tonight for a delivery at 0600 tomorrow.
Not only has this been one huge traffic jam, but I took a couple wrong turns as well. Got to tour downtown Bethlahem PA. don't think they designed those streets with a truck in mind.
Missed my turn in CT and ended up taking a trip around my elbow to get to my butt.
Got the last parking spot in this TS tonight after finding the first two full.
Then it took four pullups to get my fat butt in the spot. Can't even back straight tonight!
HOoowee.
Take care out there, guys.
