Hello all,
Has anyone attended Stevens CDL school in CO? I'm asking because I want to go there but there is a you tube video of the school there and its horrible living conditions. Yes I know the purpose is a short stay to get trained, but there has to be a better way than sleeping on wooden bunks in open rooms. I did my 20 in the military and that was expected because well....its the military!! But if I'm going to endure a bus ride from the east coast, pay them $400, to go to a crappy location to get trained and still have to pay them for the rest of the training then heck no!
So I'd really appreciate the skinny on their school in CO. Thanks in advance -
I think it may be a good idea to vett the video ,is it genuine or from a gripe that couldn't cut it or tested pos. and got booted? plenty of those out there cranking out REAMS of misinformation.Good luck and GOD bless! -
I got my CDL training 3 years ago from Careers worldwide out of Keenesburg, CO They train peeps for stevens but they train for other companies too. Ok as far as the house you stay in its not bad yes there are bunk beds but its in bedrooms with doors. they have a living room with cable kitchen to cook in. Your only there for three weeks. Its not a hotel but you will get good training, I can guarantee you the accommodations there will feel like the Hilton compared to the tiny bunk you will be sleeping in the truck. (oh just to let you know trainees sleep in the top bunk) Oh and that tiny bunk in the truck is all you get for 6-8 weeks I also served in the Army. This is a lifestyle change and if you keep a good attitude you will do just fine. If you cant cope with sleeping on a bunk bed then you wont be in the business that long. Good Luck

I'd sleep on a park bench if I had to,if that's what it took to learn the ropes and be able to make upwards of 40,000 a year, others may not be starting as late as me and have more leeway in their situation, but for a guy like me in my position there's only a few companies that'll sponsor my schooling.Stevens is one of them and while I'm sure they have their merits as well as faults,it wasn't just the digs that turned me off to them, the low starting pay was the big decider for me as it indicates a slight disregard for the driver's right to expect a competetive wage. Actually, their attention to safety first is really admirable, but luckily I got accepted by a different big outfit that's willing to take a chance on me and pays a livable wage, so I was able to pass up the crummy digs and low pay. I don't think anybody that's downright determined to succeed has any thing to worry about with Stevens, they've been around a long while. Thanks again-GOD bless! -
Thanks all,
It's not the bunks I have a problem with as I did my time in carrier and destroyer berthings who's racks are even smaller than truck racks. So I can hack it... Trust me!! The problem I had was what looked to be one head and a nasty decrypt shower. I'm all for doing what you have to do but the company should be honest about this on their website. Another company that I'm interested in puts their students in single hotel rooms and pays THEM during orientation AND training! That's why I wanted to be fair and ask I stewed of just assuming or taking someone else's word. In this case there is video evidence but I was/am willing to look past that if it's worth it.Last edited: Mar 16, 2014

It's nice to hear from someone else that's just startin out,I think we're probly on the same page about Stevens, they're reputably ok,sure, but who needs low rent conditions and low pay if there's anything else available? If these "sub par" conditions are turning recruits away, well then It's up to companies like Stevens and others to up the ante a bit and afford us new guys a little dignity instead of stickin us in a situation, that kinda rubs our faces in the ol' "like it or lump it" choice. Again,it doesn't speak well of there respect for the driver, sure they're takin a chance on us,but don't they know what a big chance we're taking on them? Kudos for thinking clearly and trying to find what's best for you before you commit, instead of just listening to the gripes. And I think(from what I've seen) there's no better place for answers than this website's forums, thanks again to all the busy professionals who take time outa their day to put their thoughts and experiences out there, and all just to help out!-GOD bless
