Actually hunter you don't always sit in the meatpatch sometimes you get in and get out. Another
good thing is to know were the dispatch bonderies are as a new guy say you get a load from atlanta to denver once
you drop in denver chances are very good your next load is the meat patch so you put some miles on the load try to not mess
Around so there's plenty of time on it so you can give it to a guy that has little time on his load so you can take his load he takes yours
Also known as a repower. If you do this and get it down to a science you avoid the meat patch more not completely but more. If you have
A good trainer he or she will teach you more. Training takes about 3 months grad fleet takes 3 month so if you can keep your nose clean no safety problems your looking at april or may for your wife to ride along.
PS sorry for the double post ZOMBIE TRUCK 8087 -
thank you zombie,i'm sure i'll learn the "tricks of the trade" one way or another, how long have you been with stevens, and how do you like them, and also, are company drivers still required too adjust there slack adjusters, and how is stevens when it comes too safety defects or issues with a customers trailer?
-
The slack adjusters auto adjust however you must check them according to fmC guidelines during daily inspections. I've been with stevens for a year know. We haul our trailers not customers trailers if we haul walmart trl says stevens if we haul tyson trl says stevens ect. Except Michelangelo but don't be concernd with that u won't do that for a long time as in years.

Ok hunter, just every time I see someone saying they don't want to sit in the meat or produce patch, and they go to Stevens, in a few months they are back, saying how bad Stevens is. The attitude of run run run gets alot of drivers into trouble. One has to have fun out here too. The policy when I started with Stevens was 1 year accident free before any rider was allowed on the truck, it seems to have changed.
Stevens will work hard to make you a success at trucking, if you work with them, learn how to run efficiently, and communicate. Run legal, keep it safe, have fun, know where you are, and where you need to be each day, and everything works in your favor. Please and thank you go along ways with people as they here it so little today.
I wish you all the best in your trucking career, and all the changes in life style it will take to be a success.venne Thanks this. -
Stevens expects their drivers to report and get repaired any safety defect with the truck or trailer as soon as you see the defect. This also translates into a good safe stat score with the FMSCA, and Stevens trucks do not get pulled into scales for DOT inspections as often because of the attention to safety. Fact verified by a Tennessee DOT officer on I-81.
I have never had any trouble getting a trailer fixed, and they all have been Stevens Trailers in my 18 months with the company. -
thank you tleaheart,i may have come across wrong on my last post,i did not intend too come of with an attitude,i am going into this with eyes wide open,i dont expect cavier,i know i will have too work my tail off,and i always say thank you,and please,im sure stevens is a good company,i believe all the negative i hear is from former employess with a beef againt stevens, like i said,i will form my own opinion, and i cant blame my lack of enthusiasm on a company.

I've only worked for this company so I do not know what others are up to, I just want to say the above statement sounds a little too positive. I'm sure there are a lot of Stevens drivers with bad attitudes out there who only want to point out the negative but it's a little bit like stereotypes, it's not all true but where there is smoke there is fire. I do believe this is a good company to start with, they say once you have driven for Stevens for a while you can find a job anywhere. Once you hit the road for Stevens, start looking for the next company to work for by picking the brains of other drivers. Talk to drivers from different companies, different types (flatbed, box, tanker, etc) and never believe something just one guy says. If you do this, maybe you'll find that Stevens is best company to work for. I haven't discovered this yet, I have just discovered that there are no perfect companies out there because they all have their advantages and disadvantages.
I delivered here in the Los Angeles area yesterday and this evening I'm still sitting here with no load assignment making today's earnings approximately zero dollars. I asked my driver manager what's going on and he told there are 41 Stevens trucks sitting in LA looking for loads. I may have to switch back to being a company driver soon, I sure will miss the partial freedom being a lease operator gave me. -
RedeyeXpress: I had unexpected reset in L.A. on the receiver parking lot small that I couldn't turn around if I needed to.
Then they sent me with produce across the country.
Wish u luck. Sometimes it's hard not to ask yourself these questions.
But in the end, it's all about location, location, location.
-
Redeyeexpress, I sat in Las vegas for 40 hours last week, after delivering my load. SO I had 2 days of zero pay if I choose to look at it like that. But I looked at it as a reset, that would allow me to run cross country with the next produce load they send me on, and that is what happened. As a solo driver, I plan on having to set for a day here and there, to either reset my hours, or to wait to regain hours.
I am a positive person, and have found that by doing my job efficiently, and communicating with stevens, and the customers with please and thank you, I make good money as a lease operator.
Besides, 41 trucks in LA waiting for loads is a low number for Stevens. A lot of freight going in, a lot less coming out, especially with dry freight which is how many trucks got out of LA last year.
