It does not matter how long you have been OTR if you have not driven in the last couple of months you have to take a Refresher Course with them Cost the same as a New hire except your not studying for your CDL.

 

Ever hear of companies not hireing because they have too much exp?Well it happens.Companies wanna train you their way and many drivers with exp does things their way.

 

I am - but not at Stevens - I am going to one that I've paid for & is close to home. I 'graduate' in 2 wks.

 

The company is an excellent starter company if you want to learn how to run by the book. If you are independent, don't want to conform to the rules and have trouble being told what to do, you won't like it there.
Many of the people there in charge are retired or former military and there is definitely a military flavor there.
But they are fair, up front and if you do a year or two there, you will be in demand by many other companies.

My time at Stevens was well spent, I learned a lot. Primarily that I don't ever want to run reefer again, lol!

 

sooo stevens vs transam lease which is better?

i cant seem to find any numbers on the stevens site...

i know transam is .84 cents a mile.

 

You're kidding right? Fuel is darned near 4 a gallon.... for now.

 

There is a lot more to lease than the mileage pay.
For instance, is there an escape clause? How is the FSC paid?, maintenance fees, mileage fees...the list goes on and on.
I cannot speak for TransAm. I can give you numbers and personal experience with Stevens.
First of all, it is a true lease. Not a lease purchase. You may ask for a purchase option at the end and they will give you one if you ask before signing the lease.
Secondly, it has an escape clause...VERY IMPORTANT!
You will pay in a $500 deposit over the first few weeks that is forfeited if you decide to cancel the lease before it's term. However, you do have the option to cancel the lease for any reason you decide. You will owe no more payments, nor be chased down for termination fees, etc.
In most cases, if you choose to terminate the lease and return to the company side, they will waive the $500.
Now this is the part that I tell everyone: LEASES ARE NOT FOR EVERYONE!
You will work harder, be away from home more with a lease than a company person. If you run it properly, and if you're a decent business person, you can come out better off in pay with the lease verses company side.
But you can come out worse, if you're sloppy.
I know L/O with the company that earn as low as 0.30/mile when everything is figured, and I know L/Os that earn in excess of 0.60 per mile.
When all was said and done with myself, I earned just a hair over 0.54 over my two leases.
In answer to your original question: Stevens begins your first lease at 0.85, the full FSC (currently around 0.41 I think) paid on loaded miles, and passes the full fuel discounts onto the L/O.

so after i get done with there class at steven's and on the road with a trainer @26 cent's a mile, what is the avg miles a week i'll get and were they run mostly, i like west myself. thank's
