Stevens transport

I've never worked for Stevens. but I have come in contact with many of their drivers over the years. I can count on one hand how many of their drivers that I didn't care for. Most were pretty happy, wanted more money obviously, but pretty happy. They drive decent equipment, equipped with APU units. They seem to be well trained by Stevens. Stevens is all over the country. You'll get to experience all terrains and conditions. I know a guy who has been there for 20 years and still enjoys it.

 

If you have no past experience operating a business nor any basic bookkeeping skills, pass on getting a lease with Stevens. Stay company side and learn the business first. I came to Stevens with operational business experience and still took me about 3 weeks to adjust to the transportation business model. So I spent the first three weeks finding my financial feet, then three more straightening out my mess from learning. After that, I've been averaging $1100 to $1400 per week operating a lease truck.

It's more than just driving the truck when the success falls on your shoulders. You learn fast that your DM is not the 'Do all goto guy' you think he'll be. After 1 year on this lease, I only use my DM for issuing TCheks and repowers. I've learned to network with EVERYONE at the company. Planners, business advisors, payroll .... everyone. If you take charge of your business and take ownership and responsibility for your own success, you WILL make money every time. If you layback and don't get involved with your own planning then expect low miles i.e. 2000mi/week. I'm averaging 3100 miles a week and considering cutting back just so I can see more sights on my travels.

Bottom line... Apply what you learn everyday. Get better for tomorrow. Put the work in. Get paid well.

 

I am an experienced driver that will be going through stevens refresher course. Can anyone tell me how long I will have to be out with the trainer. Will they make me go the entire time?
