I think Cabbage is the worst.
And PAPA is correct about Donner. There are signs the whole way down. If you follow them no jake is required. Though unless it is snowing or icy I prefer to use mine.
My first time down cabbage I was on the phone with my mother, had not talked to her in weeks and I had just gotten a new bluetooth headset.
Watching the road but not really paying attention to where I was.
Started down, looked again, said to my mother ummmm I gotta go....lol
Since then I never were a headset anymore and the phone is usually off when I am driving. Did not have a real problem, but I would have prefered to drop another gear before I started down.

something to always keep in mind when repowering a load. Is it a legal load, especially going into Cali. You did not say this guy showed you his scale ticket, and I will bet he knew he was overweight, as there is not 1800 lbs difference between a t2000 and a pete.

There may be close to that if the guy was in an older T2000 like mine and the Pete was newer. The Petes are heavier to begin with, and an APU and DPF can add a lot of weight. Still, you are probably correct in that the driver either never bothered to weigh or did and knew he was over.
