Hello guys! I am new on here, and just thought I would say Hi to everyone. I just got accepted to Stevens and starting my CDL training there on 12/7. I have never been in a truck before, but looking forward to it. I have been reading a lot of posts on here lately, and alsmost thought about not goinig to Stevens because of all the horror stories I have read. But you guys seem to be telling it how it is, and it dosen't seem so bad. *Bigthangs* I really like reading your posts, it gives me something to look forward to. Kind of what to expect....I just hope my trainer is as cool as yours!

I tell it like it is. From my start to Alliance to training and now I'm an o/o trainer. The good bad and ugly. I'm blunt and don't beat the bush. Stevens is a place that I love to hate. I get home anytime I want, learned the routes and what will get me where I want as well as made a name for myself. Only reason I stay. Watch your back cause they will get you at every corner, with no warning. But in s nutshell I'm happy. After iget caught up on this thread I'll see if it's anything like my main thread and will help keep it poppin'. Welcome to Stevens! -
They've changed the last 3 weeks. You no longer run with another student, they've changed it to running with a "finish" trainer, basically there to smooth out rough edges. BUT from what i've been told by my first trainer, you will basically be running 1000 miles a day. which i have mixed emotions about.
with my first trainer, he eased me into getting used to running 10 hrs a day or so, which was good, but then in the 4th and 5th week we were "allowed" to run up to 1000 miles a day. Which i thought was weird cause you don't learn anything from the passenger seat. So i asked him and he said your right you don't learn anything by not doing it. Not once did i ever run a load from start to finish, which, if you think they would set you up to go solo, you should do. Instead we basically ran like a half team or so. But anyway, what i needed to know i learned in the first 3 weeks, everything after that was just running miles making everyone but myself money. That's why I'm hating that I have to go out with another trainer, just to sit there and run miles for him and the company.
Though some good points about stevens, great equipment, No running I-70 west of Denver, I'm from Denver so i know about the mountains lol and at anytime your not comfortable in your driving conditions, you can park yourself. All in all from nothing to being a truck driver, they will get you there.Baack Thanks this. -
Hey guys I'm starting on Monday the 2nd and would like more details of what to expect day 3 and to know why people were sent home
-
Does anyone know about the new $100 dollar investment you have to give to go to dallas now
-
Hey Anutha, I also heard about that. I will have to pay it also when I start on 12/7. I was told it is a regristration fee for all of the background checks they do. I was also told I will never see it again. Good luck with your training, and keep us posted if you have the time to tell what is going on
-
Yea that's why I want to know about people being sent home I don't want to go down and get sent home for some trivial thing and plus be out $100 bucks and have to buy a bus ticket home
-
Anutha, if you have something on your record or anything that you think might disqualify you then you should tell them about it and they will get it preapproved for you. I had something that I thought might be a problem and my driver counselor Lou Aronna (excellent lady) got it preapproved for me and it was signed off on by the hiring manager. Hope that helps you out. Lou said she wanted to make sure nothing happens to me when I get down there that would make me have to leave. That's why she wanted to get me preapproved. Good luck!

Well trev everything that I could think of I have disclosed but I saw on another forum that people were sent packing for things that they had disclosed before making it there so this had me worried a bit I have been waiting an entire year to beecome eligible plus left the job I had so all of my eggs are in this one basket.

Trev fyi they check your criminal and call your work ref b4 you get there I talked to Leslie today my recruiter who is also very nice she told me that my job refs were verefied today and I would get a ticket confirmation tomorrow and a couple of weeks ago she said that people get sent home when they sit down with the hiring manager and decide oh I forgot to say I failed a drug test. Her words were they get in front of the hiring person and decide they want to tell the truth and get themselves sent. I have disclosed all and been pre-approved but that's only pre. And it is frightening to see guys say oh we started with 50 guys and 20 made it thru. But scared and all I'm jumping in and praying for the best
