I just got my prehire from Stevens yesterday. I go to orientation on March 7th. It's a little ways away, but that gives me plenty of time to get what I need before I actually head out to Texas. I should be graduating CDL school either next week or the week after that. Definitely looking forward to getting out on the road.:smt023

I called Stevens asking for a copy of a lease agreement. They balked. Is there any other way I can get a lease agreement and read it?

All done with orientation just waiting on my trainer who should be picking me up today hopefully. Fozzy did you go alliance or are you driving company still? I talked to the alliance recruiter yesterday he said at 60 days in grad fleet you could go alliance and if you didn't like it you could switch back to company driver with no penalty. Is that true? He also said to plan on your fixed cost to be around $750. I'm strongly considering taking on the lease. I was also told to concentate on my mpg's because that would be a big determining factor on how successful I would be. Fozzy what kind of mpg do you average and what factors do you think contribute to it?

From what I have read, you should not consider a lease. Be a company driver and learn the business before you even consider a lease.
There are many many posts on this site regarding those that have gone under from a lease. The economy is still really bad....Please do your research!:biggrin_2555:

I am in a pete 387 and come to find out I blew the water line that goes to the air compressor. They had to order in parts, so I am at a hotel. Hopefully they will have it fixed today. Fixed costs are about right, but they don't include putting anything aside for home time. You should do at least $100 a week, that way your costs are covered when you take time off.

Fozzy what happens with your payment when your truck breaks down. From my understanding if you are out of work for a few days it could put you in a big bind. Does alliance do anything to help you out in this type of situation.

At the yard today I met a guy who just completed grad fleet and went straight to the lease before he was assigned a load he drove his truck home and it was making a strange sound he had the shop take a look and they found his tranny to be the problem. He said it was taken care of with no cost to him because he was never dispatched.

I hear so many mixed things about alliance I guess I will have to sign at lease when its possible to get my own opinion. One guy a rehire that was in orientation with me spoke very bad about it one day the next day he was in the alliance office signing a lease. Then he said alliance is the only way to make money. So what's going on are they taking guys upstairs to hypnotise them or what?

Stay away from the koolaid! if you're not rollin you aren't making money, but the payment keeps on. Anything you find wrong in the first 30 days is fixed at no cost and anything under warranty as well. You should only ever pay for maint. They do have breakdown pay but it isn't much.

by the way, I'm out of the shop, they had to replace the water pump as well, the loss of coolant killed it.
