Stevens did not go to cadcadias, an owner operator that trains has bought one. Still only have petes and kw's for company trucks.

To flatly say an APU is necessary as a business decision is wrong. It depends on so many variables, the lanes one runs, the cost of the APU, and the drivers choices on parking, driving, heat and cold. In your opinion, it is neccessary, in mine, it is a waste of money for me.

I hope that fozzybear finds his thread, as it is a good read, from an actual new driver.

I live local to their headquarters, so I went to a hiring seminar there today. I asked a current student that I saw in the parking lot some of the same questions. He said he was being sent to an audiologist because he failed the hearing test. He said the test portion he failed was a guy whispering from about 12 feet and he couldn't hear it. I asked him about the vision and colorblindness tests. He said they didn't use charts for the colors, they use pseudo traffic lights that randomly flash red, yellow and green. He didn't mention anything about BP. I was looking into the school and company and based on what I saw there today I got a really good vibe. Hope that helps.

Fozzy, I've been missing your updates. Hope all is going well. I just found out today that I will be starting training at Stevens on Sept. 7th. I am looking forward to it. Question... For the first 3 weeks you are on your own without pay; right? I am not sure how big a difference the price of things are in Dallas to where I am at, how much $ do you think a guy needs to get by with for the first 3 weeks until some $ starts coming in. Also, how many days a week are you in training, is it every day? I have enjoyed your post and keeping up with your progress. They have been very helpful!!!!!!! Maybe I'll see you along the road or at the yard. Good luck.

bill, I just wanted to give you an FYI. I think some of the earliest post on this thread talks about the physical in more detail. Just wanted to let you know unless you haenv't seen them yet. Did you say you were starting at Stevens? I start school on the 7th sept.

When your on the road with your first trainer is it like team driving or does he have to be awake when you drive? Also, do the trucks have double sleepers? You have great post, we enjoy them.
    Thanks and Be Safe,

wow didnt mean to rile you up tl.are you a company driver or alliance ? cause if you r alliance then youwould know that alot of your money u make is from fuel mpgs.if you want to be comfortable and still make good money then yes an apu is needed .if you get stuck in laredo for a few days and idle where is your fuel cost then ?i admit fuel price is better now than b4.when i was there it was when prices were up 4.65 or whatever it was.and i also stayed out 3 or 4 months at a time . my truck was set up to live in.so the apu was the best thing in it.i had a pete so right there it was a fuel cost challange compared to the kw wich is lighter than the pete.if you think its a waste of money than thats your oppinion and i respect that but if you get 1 and use it for 3 months you will c a gr8 change in your net.there are other benifits to having it also but i wont go into it.be safe out there.:biggrin_25525:

after coming into orientation 1 (which is your first week) if you get passed all the background, physical, bs stuff, you become a employee when you are sent out to be with a trainer, you are getting paid at that point and you will recieve your first paycheck a week from then. its been while since my orientation but you should have 1 week of moola, 2 just in case.
