You won't have to do the Functional Capacity Exam as part of their normal process. Some companies (I think Swift actually) make everyone do it, but most don't. I only have to do it because I had a previous back surgery. I believe Stevens FCE exam holds people to oa higher standard than most of the other ones I've read about. By higher standard, I mean more weight. I'm ok with it, I have done some research today and I have plenty of strangth to pass. Even though my Neurosurgeon, who is a nationally ranked powerlifter, released me and knows I'm an athlete, that's not good enough for the company. It's ok, they are just covering their butt.
I got good news and bad news today. The good news is that I will be able to restart with the company. The bad news is it won't be anytime soon. I have to be off the med for one month documented by my personal physician, meaning I have to see him probably once a week or so. So there's a month lost. Plus, the med I'm on you cannot just stop cold turkey. The withdrawals are horrendous, and it's not good for you. As I said, I was already weening off the meds with the help of my doctor. So I already started that process. But it can take anywhere from 4 weeks to 12 weeks from the time you start, and I have no idea where I'm at along that timeline until I see my doctor tomorrow. This even though I'm taking the med for an off-label reason. I don't have no stinkin mental disorder!
In the meantime, and after I visit with my doc tomorrow, I might explore just going to school and getting my CDL somewhere else so I'm not wasting time. Of course, then I would run the risk of Stevens not hiring me and having to go somewhere else. I'd prefer to go with them, obviously, or I wouldn't have started there in the first place.
I'll just have to wait and see. The only problem I have with waiting is that I quit my job to go to school, and I cannot go 1-3 months without any income. Not possible. I have a family to support. I will also have to go and take my permit test again, as it's only good for 30 days. So, if you add the doctors fees I will have to spend, the cost of the FCE, and the fact I've already lost a week of income and maybe more, this is one expensive problem. It's already cost me a grand just for what I listed above. I'm hemmoraging money and now I have no job.

-
how much longer before ya have ya own truck foz?
-
Lying on your app probably. I know I have an all day class tomorrow, then I have a bunch of stuff to clear, but I do noy know how much I can get done on Saturday, and Monday is a holiday. It could be middle of next week, but I can use a short break anyway.

Thanks Vike! I appreciate your input. I had done my homework and I actually chose Stevens for their long training process. I want to be prepared when I hit the road alone, or at least as prepared as I can be. The only thing that has changed from your post is a new policy at Stevens that does away with the dumb and dumber process of two trainees riding together after your initial training. The process now is that you go with a trainer for five weeks, back at the terminal for 4-1/2 days for more training and testing, and then go out with a finishing trainer for four more weeks. It is at that point you go solo.
Everything else you have dead on from my experience. My only issue was that nowhere was this med listed as a problem. Nowhere. Had I known, I would've continued to ween off the med until I met the standard, waited to start with them, and not quit my job. -
foz,what do you mean,"lying on your app",,,traffic tickets,accidents etc?
-
sounds like you made it foz,i have been following you as much as i could, congratulations bro

Lying, leaving something out etc. Just be up front, if you try to slide by they may catch you later and that will be it.
